Finally, the company says that mechanical royalties totaled C$12 million ($9 million) last year. As part of its results, the company acknowledged that its move to diversify beyond performance rights collections begun in 2016 has not worked out to its satisfactions. With No Live Performances on This Year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Program, Here’s How the Producers Told the Honorees’ Stories

Peresman thinks the highlights packages turned out so well that he hopes to have them as the basis for a spinoff show in the future. “[Once the pandemic is over], the plan is to go back to the format that we had [with shorter clip packages, plus an introduction, acceptance speech and performance by each honoree]. What would be great is if we could create an additional program that could go a little deeper and tell some of these stories about the artists. If we could create some additional programming that we could run with our media partner [HBO] that goes a little deeper and tells the stories about these artists, that would be ideal.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was originally set to be held on May 2 at Cleveland’s Public Hall. “We had hotels booked, flights booked, ...

In Honor of the 30th Anniversary of Rap’s First Hot 100 No. 1, A List of Hip-Hop Hot 100 Firsts

OK, so it probably wasn’t the seal-breaking No. 1 most hip-hop fans would’ve chosen: a pop-leaning, suburbs-courting, classic rock-sampling crossover anthem from the artist born Robert Van Winkle, a white MC of controversial credibility. Still, it was a crucial chart first in rap history: the culmination of a number of smaller breakthroughs over the previous decade, and the start of many historic hip-hop No. 1s to come. Here are 15 more of the most important rap firsts in Billboard Hot 100 history: 1. Running as an independent, he bagged some 50,000 votes, a vast distance from the heavyweights. In the small hours of Wednesday, the election was in the balance with neither...

2020 U.S. Election: Artists and Celebrities Weigh In as The Wait Goes On (and Trump Claims Voting ‘Fraud’)

As the evening progressed, a number of political points became clear. Like his surprise victory in 2016, President Trump performed better than many political experts had expected (he also lit up social channels with a late press conference which doubled as a thinly-veiled victory speech, while votes were still being counted). And the Blue Wave never truly arrived for Democratic challenger Joe Biden. While the world awaits a winner, musicians and celebrities weighed in on a nerve-racking night. John Legend, Halsey, Richard Marx and many others shared their thoughts on social media. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. “Well, I had an almost dream come true, which was with Prince,” she recounts. Following his show at London’s Earl’s Court in the early ‘90s, Minogue met the Purple One and summoned the courage to mention her album plans. “We just kind of hung out. I don’t even know what that means, but we hung out and he kind of put me on the spot a bit. He was like, ‘So where are your lyrics?'” After some back and forth, Prince sent his driver to Kylie’s apartment with a tape. “There’s a cassette in my hand with Prince singing, a song called ‘Baby Doll,’ that I kind of was involved with, but he who slept four hours a night or something and just created stuff the rest of the other 20 hours. That was my almost, we didn’t record it.” How close did it get to a full studio t...
