C. Tangana’s ‘El Madrileño’ Trades Trends for Edgy Collaborations and Spanish Soul

One of my favorite tracks is “Cambia!,” featuring two up-and-coming regional Mexican stars: Adriel Favela and Carin León. I discovered Adriel Favela with his [2018 song] “La Escuela No Me Gustó,” which introduced me to corridos.  I have many Mexican friends and they told me about the new trend with young acts doing more urban corrido. And during a trip to Mexico, I heard Carín León on the radio, and his melodies reminded me of ’90s Spanish pop act Andy y Lucas. Then, one night in Madrid, we began writing a corrido, I sent the demo to Adriel on my phone, and he heard it while he was on the touring bus with his musicians. Half-hour later, he sent me a video of all of them singing and playing the song. When I saw that reaction, I made the move to call Carin and also ask him to be o...

Chloe x Halle Drop Futuristic ‘Ungodly Hour’ Video

Chloe x Halle dropped the futuristic video for the title track from their 2020 album “Ungodly Hour” on Wednesday night (Feb. 24). The eye-popping clip directed by Alfred Marroquín (Rosalia, Sech) opens with the sisters dressed in head-to-toe blue vinyl outfits inside a dark, mysterious laboratory, posing and twitching to the song’s heartbeat rhythm as the lights flicker around them. The scene then turns to a shallow pool, with both singers laying in the water wearing nude-colored, bedazzled body suits in between flashes of them in a spare expanse rocking silver gowns and Erykah Badu-like facial hardware. The whole thing feels like a glimpse of dystopian, fashion-forward future set to the song’s soothing flow and vocals, which have them warning, “You know ...

“Who’s Your Daddy?” indeed. St. Vincent is headed back into our ears. The singer pops up in a new viral poster campaign promoting what appears to be her upcoming follow-up to 2017’s MASSEDUCTION, in which she poses in a retro-70s burgundy suit while rocking a blonde bob. The teaser for the album reportedly called Daddy’s Home features copy that reads, “St. Vincent is back with a record of all-new songs. Warm Wurlitzers and wit, glistening guitars and grit, with sleaze and style for days. Taking you from uptown to downtown with the artist who makes you expect the unexpected. So sit back, light up, and by all means have that bourbon waiting because… DADDY’S Home.” The ad, which features the logo for the singer’s Loma Vista Recor...

Listen to Shamir’s Thumping Cover of Billie Eilish’s ‘Ocean Eyes’

Shamir has put his own spin on Billie Eilish‘s breakthrough debut single, “Ocean Eyes” and it’s a jam. The sedate 2016 original is notable for its barely-there beat and spare, swirling instrumentation. But in the hands of Shamir, the whispery ballad is transformed into a percussion-heavy swoon, with the singer layering in more aggressive drums, thumping bass and ringing guitars under his soaring falsetto. The audio for the remake dropped on Tuesday, just weeks after Shamir teased it in a since-deleted Instagram post that read, “Have you ever said to yourself, ‘I love ‘Ocean Eyes’ by @billieeilish but I wish it was a haunted emo shoegaze rock song? Well come 2/23 I got you!” You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Da...

“The Queen and I have now tested twice,” he said in a statement , adding, “Officially, she’s diagnosed as ‘on her way out of the tunnel’ now, though, which I’m extremely thankful for.” “Anyone who knows me knows my world begins and ends with Miss Yearwood, so she and I will ride through this together,” he continued, noting that he’ll be spending some time laying low, pausing his weekly Inside Studio G conversation on Facebook for the time being. “And anyone who knows her knows she’s a fighter and she’s been doing everything right, so I know we’ll walk out the other side of this thing together.” While Yearwood is doing alright, Brooks asked for prayers and good thoughts from fans, as she is still experiencing symptoms. “If anyone asks, that’s what you can do for her....

Paul McCartney Memoir Due Out in November

“More often than I can count, I’ve been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right,” McCartney said in a statement. “The one thing I’ve always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I’ve learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life.” Financial terms for “The Lyrics,” which has a list price of $100, were not disclosed. Publishers have long sought a McCartney memoir, even though he has spoken often about the past and has participated in such projects as Barry Miles’ biography “Paul McCartney: Many Yea...

Watch Rick Astley React to ‘The Voice’ Judges Covering ‘Together Forever’: Exclusive

You’ve got to wake up pretty early in the morning to Rick Roll the Rick Roller. That’s what happened when British singer Rick Astley was told that the coaches from The Voice had filmed a remake of his iconic 1988 video for “Together Forever.” In the clip, which opens with some crackly, vintage 1980s VHS vibes, Astley lights up when he sees Blake Shelton doing an awkward, hunched-shoulder dance as he’s joined by an acid wash-drenched Nick Jonas and a shoulder-pad rocking Kelly Clarkson. John Legend, decked out in a fringed leather jacket, pulls off his own Breakfast Club-worthy steps, which clearly delights Astley, who is checking it all out on his phone. “That is priceless,” Astley chuckles as Clarkson shakes her gold necklaces and matching chunky ...
