On June 12th, they’ll play another benefit event for Wiley that will also mark two significant landmarks: It will be the city’s first fully vaccinated, full capacity indoor event since the pandemic, and it will serve as a christening for the newly renovated Irving Plaza. Billed as The Strokes & Friends (so expect some surprise guests!) the show serves as a fundraiser for Wiley. A civil rights attorney who once worked for Mayor Bill de Blasio before becoming one of his strongest critics, Wiley is a s...

The concert was pre-taped a week in advance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, but was presented as a television broadcast and as an extended 90-minute YouTube stream. One of the biggest highlights was Foo Fighters’ surprise performance of “Back in Black” with AC/DC’s Brian Johnson. The AC/DC frontman has made only occasional on-stage appearances since hearing issues temporarily forced his departure from music in 2016, but he was in fine form for his live collaboration with Fo...

As one of several acts to play the “All In WA: A Concert for COVID-19 Relief” livestream event on Wednesday night (June 24th), Pearl Jam treated viewers to the first-ever live performance of their recent single “Dance of the Clairvoyants”. The socially distant rendition of the song featured each member of Pearl Jam performing from his own home. The band’s longtime lineup of Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron was bolstered by former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who provided backing vocals. In the video of the performance, Vedder holds a handheld camera, as his two daughters and wife Jill are seen dancing, bringing to life the song’s line, “I know the girls wanna dance.” Musically, the band mixes things up, with guitarist Gossard pla...

Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Arcade Fire Take Part in Preservation Hall Livestream Benefit: Watch

New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band held their ‘Round Midnight Preserves livestream benefit to raise funds for the Preservation Hall Foundation. The event was highlighted by a “headlining” performance of “When the Saints Go Marching In” featuring many of the night’s participants led by Paul McCartney. Macca actually played trumpet during the song, leaving much of the singing to the likes of Dave Grohl, Irma Thomas, Dave Matthews, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, and Nathaniel Rateliff and members of The Night Sweats. A video of that all-hands-on-deck rendition can be seen below. The rest of ‘Round Midnight P...

Last month, Bruce Springsteen led Jersey4Jersey, a livestreamed concert benefiting COVID-19 relief efforts in the state of New Jersey. On Monday, New York held its own virtual fundraising event, headlined by its own local hero in Billy Joel. Following appearances by New York celebrities (Spike Lee, Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Niro) and politicians (Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayer Bill De Blasio), the Piano Man himself closed out the virtual telethon. Joel aptly chose to pay tribute to the Big Apple, the war-weary epicenter of the pandemic, by playing a moving rendition of his 1976 single “Miami 2017”, also known as “Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway”. As Rise Up New York!’s main event of the evening, Joel’s performance was broadcast on big screens all across the shuttered city, including Times...
