SL VIEW: UEFA 2020 Fans’ Team of the Year

Earlier this month, UEFA revealed their 51 nominees for the Team of the Year and it was unsurprising that Bayern Munich had the most players on the list. The Bavarian giants won the Bundesliga, DFL Pokal Cup and Champions League treble for only the second time in their history last term and they did so in stunning fashion with a 30-match unbeaten streak which included 29 wins. Since 2001, UEFA have allowed fans to vote for their Team of the Year on their official website. As always, the final result will be announced in January and here are my picks for the 2020 Team of the Year. Formation: 4-3-3 Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer – Bayern Munich: The 34-year-old was almost ever-present for Bayern between the sticks as they went on to win another treble. Chelsea Plan to Reject All Bids For Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea are planning to keep youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi at Stamford Bridge this January, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Hudson-Odoi has been at Chelsea since 2007, and he made his professional debut for the club in January 2018 against Newcastle United after coming through the youth ranks. The 20-year-old has made 73 appearances for the Blues, scoring on 11 occasions in all competitions. This form has earned him three caps for the English national team. Hudson-Odoi playing for England However, the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, as well as the end-season form of Christian Pulisic, have seen the young Englishman’s playing time limited this season, starting just one league game so far. Nonetheless, The Athletic report that Chelsea are determined to keep the winger a...

‘Mission completed’, ‘fantastic news’: Some Spurs fans react to Euro club’s official Twitter post

Ryan Sessegnon has been impressing in his loan spell at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim. The 20-year-old – who joined Spurs from Fulham for £25m in the summer of 2019 (signed by Mauricio Pochettino) – moved to Hoffenheim in the summer transfer window on loan. Spurs rate the young left-winger (who can play as a left-back) highly and want him to get regular games and return to the north London club next season as a revitalised player. Spurs boast of a wealth of attacking midfielders, and following the arrival of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid on loan Sessegnon was always going to struggle for game time this season. Likewise, Spurs have Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon as left-back options, and he would have struggled to nail down a regular starting place in defence as well. His move to Germ...

Zakaria joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Young Boys for a reported €10m in June 2017. Since then, he has become one of the most sought after midfielders in the Bundesliga, featuring 100 times in the last three seasons in all competitions. Zakaria has become one of Monchengladbach’s most vital players The Switzerland international has only recently returned from a long-term knee injury which has kept him out of contention since March, making just one start this season. The 24-year-old has attracted a lot of attention from a number of the world’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Chelsea all linked. ...

Journalist: Chelsea in the hunt to sign two-time CL winner…three y/r deal offered

Chelsea remain in the hunt to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich, according to reliable journalist and transfer expert, Nicolo Schira.  A host of clubs including Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping close tabs on his situation, while La Liga champions Real Madrid are also interested. Schira claims (via Twitter) that both Chelsea and PSG have offered a three-year contract for Alaba and have opened talks with his agent, Pini Zahavi. The 28-year-old – who is out of contract in the summer, free to talk to other clubs in January, and is yet to sign a new deal – is demanding a four-year deal with a salary of €15m/year. Smart move from Chelsea  According to a recent report from Spanish newspaper AS, the Blues are frontrunners in the race to sign the Austrian defender. He would ...

Barcelona Join Race for Erling Braut Haaland

Barcelona have become the latest club to express an interest in signing Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Braut Haaland, according to Spanish publication Sport. The Norwegian burst onto the scene last season, scoring 28 goals in 22 appearances for RB Salzburg, before continuing that form with 33 in 32 for Borussia Dortmund since his move in January. This has led to the Leeds-born striker becoming one of the most sought after assets in world football, with several elite clubs looking to secure his services. Haaland has quickly risen to stardom And now, as reported by Sport, Barcelona are the latest club to join the queue for Haaland’s signature. La Blaugrana suffer from a lack of natural strikers since the departure of Luis Suarez in the summer. Danish forward Martin Braithwaite is their onl...

Arsenal revive interest in Ibrahima Konate

Arsenal have been linked to RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate once again, according to Spanish site TodoFichajes.com. The Gunners have not made an ideal start to life in the 2020/21 campaign, currently languishing in 14th place after ten games. Their last outing exposed some defensive frailties, as Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence struck to seal a 2-1 victory for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates. Arsenal have been underwhelming this season In contrast, RB Leipzig have been rock solid at the back this term, conceding just six in the league – only Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad have let in fewer from Europe’s top five leagues. Konate himself has only been playing for a few weeks, having missed the start of the season with a hip problem. TodoFichajes.com reports that Arsenal ...

Report: Newcastle could look to bring 26-yr-old back to the Premier League in January

Newcastle could look to re-sign Nabil Bentaleb when the transfer window reopens in January. The 26-year-old midfielder was on loan at the Premier League club last season. According to Sport1, the player has recently been suspended by Schalke for the fifth time and his agent has taken a swipe at the German club. Apparently, the midfielder will be available for a nominal fee in January and Newcastle might look to bring him back to the club. Bentaleb has started just five league games for Schalke this season and he has been quite poor in them. There is no doubt that Newcastle need to add more depth to their central midfield but Bentaleb would be an uninspiring signing for them. The former Tottenham midfielder was highly rated a few years ago but he has failed to achieve his potential. He...

Report: Figures within the club believe Liverpool could sign €75m star, Klopp an admirer

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Liverpool. According to Eurosport, the Premier League champions could make him their next big-money signing. The 20-year-old has been outstanding for the German outfit and he could prove to be a superb long term signing for Liverpool. There is no doubt that Liverpool need to sign a quality number nine soon and Erling Haaland certainly fits the profile. Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino has been in poor form for quite some time now and Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in an alternative. The 29-year-old striker has scored just 14 goals in his last 66 appearances with Liverpool and that is simply not good enough for a team looking to challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League title every year. Meanwhile, E...

Report: Chelsea to open talks with Champions League winner, PSG also interested

Chelsea are set to begin contact with the agent of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba in January. Alaba has been an important part of Hansi Flick’s Bayern side, who won the treble last season. Bayern completed the treble with a win over PSG in August However, the Austrian has refused to sign a new deal, leaving him out of contract in the summer and free to talk to other clubs in January. And now Frank Lampard’s side are ready to capitalise, according to BILD reporter Christian Falk. The Blues currently boast the best attacking record in the Premier League, as well as the joint-second best defence. Adding Alaba to an already strong side will only boost their chances of winning another league title. Furthermore, the 28-year-old’s versatility would be incredibly handy to any side. Alaba has p...

Milan and Barcelona to Battle for Dutch Defender

AC Milan and Barcelona are competing for the signature of Hoffenheim youngster Melayro Bogarde. The 18-year-old joined Hoffenheim’s academy in 2018 from Eredivisie side Feyenoord. He made his professional debut in last season’s away fixture against Mainz, and has made three starts this season in all competitions. The young Dutchman’s current deal expires in June 2021, leaving him available for a free transfer at the end of next season. He will also be able to talk to other clubs from January onwards.
