Irving Azoff‘s newly-launched venture Iconic Artists Group has partnered with David Crosby on a wide-ranging deal to monetize the California singer-songwriter’s life work in the digital era, the two parties announced today (March 3). Under the agreement, Iconic has purchased the publishing and recorded music rights to Crosby’s catalog, which includes his solo work as well as his output as a member of The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and the later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The deal also includes Crosby’s songs as a duo with Nash. “I’ve known David as a friend and have admired him as a great artist since our earliest days at Geffen Roberts Management shortly after I moved to Los Angeles,” Azoff said in a statement. “This is an incre...
Prior to that, Rowe co-founded R2M Music Publishing. Rowe made his mark with the Sony Music Group, in particular its music publishing division, which he helmed for 15 years as president. Today, Rowe is “one of the most important and successful executives in the music industry,” Mercuriadis acknowledges in a statement. “He helped build Sony ATV into the company it is today and played an important role in bringing Round Hill Music Royalty Fund successfully to the market in the wake of Hipgnosis.” Mercuriadis paid tribute to Rowe’s “incredible” dealmaking skills, including the partnership with Michael Jackson bringing The Beatles copyrights to Sony ATV, and the acquisition of Acuff-Rose Music which included the catalogs of Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers. Rowe’s career started in 1979 at ...
Just 2,500 chart sales separate the Top 5 on the chart blast. Maximo Park crashed through with their 2005 Warp debut A Certain Trigger, which caught the attention of the NME and earned a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Their sophomore album Our Earthly Pleasures, from 2007, peaked at No. 2 on the Official Albums Chart and is their only Top 10 album to date. Nature leads an all-new Top 7. Detroit Stories is the best-selling album on CD at the halfway mark. Meanwhile, metalcore group Architects could snag their first U.K. Top 10 album with For Those That Wish To Exist (Epitaph), new at No. 3 on the Chart Update. It’s the most downloaded LP over the p...

Released independently through the act’s label Rock Action, Every Country’s Sun ends the chart week some 2,900 combined sales ahead of the second-placed effort, Ghetts’ new arrival Conflict of Interest (Warner Records), the OCC reports. “It is 25 years this week since the release of our first single ‘Tuner/Lower,’ the first release on our own label Rock Action Records,” reads a statement from Mogwai. “We didn’t start the band or the label to get into the charts. None of us ever envisaged either the band or the label being in a position where having a No. 1 record would be a possibility.” Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia (Warner Records) continues to climb following the release of its “Moonlight Edition.” It’s up 4-3, while The Weeknd’s The Highlights (Republi...
“I’ve had the most incredible, emotional and overwhelming week after releasing Terra Firma and I’m just really lost for words that it’s No. 1. Like I really am lost for words.” comments Sultana, the Melbourne-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. “I was really unsatisfied with the work I’ve done in the past prior to Terra Firma and my mission for this record was to try to be better than I was the day before, the month before, the year before,” they continue. “I produced, arranged, composed, co-engineered and played everything on this record and did it all in my own studio. This was my mission, my entire soul, the air in my lungs and to have it received this way is so much more than I ever expected.” Further down the national albums chart, Ariana Grande’s Positions...
While buzz for “Calling My Phone” first began to simmer when the song was teased on TikTok, helping it vault into the top five of the Hot 100, Majid says the song’s success comes more from Columbia’s track record of artist development and trusting the A&R process. And Tjay, despite being just 19, is far from a brand new sensation, as his debut album, State of Emergency, reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in 2019, while Polo-Tjay collaboration “Pop Out” climbed all the way to No. 11 on the Hot 100 that same year. But “Calling My Phone” is a singular moment for the Bronx-born MC and one that Majid says reflects on Columbia as a destination for great music. Here, Majid talks the success of “Calling My Phone,” the crop of rising hip...
A snapshot of West’s contributors’ professions provides some insight into the citizens backing his campaign. More than one third — 1,191 — self-identified as students, pitching in $60 to $4,220. More than 20% identified as self-employed and nearly 11% as not-employed. The majority of West’s campaign funds went to “ballot access” services and consulting. After entering the race in July, missing numerous deadlines to appear on state ballots, West qualified for ballot access in 12 states: Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and Vermont. His second largest single expense of $918,130 went to Los Angeles Apparel for campaign apparel. West managed to earn 66,636 total votes for about 0.04...
