The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Aug. 28, 2021-dated chart (where Happier Than Ever is No. 1 for a third week) will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Aug. 24. The week’s most-streamed album belongs to Olivia Rodrigo, whose Sour (Geffen) lifts 4- 2, while electronic production duo Jungle swing in for a career-best No. 3 with Loving In Stereo (Caiola), their third album. Following the announcement last week Ed Sheeran’s forthcoming studio LP = (equals), his 2017 and most recent album Divide (Asylum) powers back into the Top 10, up 14-10. Written and recorded during the 2020 lockdown, When Facing The Things We Turn Away From opens at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and is the 12th domestic leader on the national survey this year. In a statement, ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd pays tribute to Hemmings and the “immense contribution” he’s made to “the Australian music landscape.” Also powering into the top tier this week is The Killers’ Pressure Machine (Island/Universal). It’s new at No. 6, for the Las Vegas alternative rock outfit’s ninth appearance in the Top Ten. Pressure Machine is the followup to Imploding The Mirage, which hit No. 1 in Australia just a year ago, in August 2020. Sydney indie rock outfit Polish Club cook up their first Top 10 appearance with their third studio album, Now We’re Cookin’ (Island/Universal). It...

The only other act with a new top 20, or top 40, set in the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, ’10s and ’20s is Bob Dylan. He most recently visited the region with the No. 2-peaking Rough and Rowdy Ways (July 4, 2020-dated chart). Streisand and Dylan not only share sustained success on the Billboard 200, but also a longtime label home: Columbia Records. Dylan’s debut album arrived in 1962 and Streisand’s first set bowed in 1963, both on the label. Nearly every one of both act’s charting albums has been released through Columbia. For Streisand, who has been signed to Columbia her entire career, her only non-Columbia efforts were the 1964 Funny Girl original Broadway cast recording, on the Capitol label, and the Funny Lady film soundtrack, on Arista, in 1...
“Of course it is incredible to top the charts, an absolutely surreal experience. But to do so with a song that my father wrote nearly 30 years ago is something truly remarkable,” Crispell III tells Billboard. “I am just 24, which means it was written before I was born. “To have the opportunity to share it with the world, and it be a hit, speaks to how timeless his writing is,” he muses. “I am honored to carry on the legacy. I pray that I make him, and everyone who has supported me, proud.” Based in Charlotte, N.C., Crispell III won BET’s talent show Sunday Best in 2019. “Wonderful” is the first single from Crispell III’s debut LP I’ve Got a Testimony, which bowed and peaked at No. 5 on Top Gospel Albums in September 20...
Also, notes the OCC, three of The Killers’ albums — Hot Fuss, Sam’s Town (2006) and Day & Age (2008) — have notched over one million U.K. chart sales, with the former bagging more than two million. Hot Fuss single “Mr Brightside” is one of the most popular tracks in the U.K. this century. In April of this year, the song logged a record-extending 260th non-consecutive week — a full five years — on the national singles chart. Meanwhile, electronic outfit Jungle are swinging to a third successive Top 10 album, with Loving In Stereo (Caiola). It’s new at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Chart Update, and is set to best the No. 7 peak of their Mercury Prize-nominated self-titled debut from 2014. Loving In Stereo is the best-selling album on wax in the first half of the wee...
The single interpolates The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” — itself the top summer hit of 1983, when it dominated the Hot 100 for eight frames, and the No. 7 title on the Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer chart. Billboard‘s Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer chart is based on titles’ performance on the Hot 100 during the annual tracking period of Memorial Day through Labor Day. The chart utilizes an inverse point system for 1959 (the Hot 100’s first full summer, following its Aug. 4, 1958, inception) through 1991 (the final summer prior to the advent of MRC Data information), with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. From 1992 through 2020, the recap incorporates point totals accumulated f...
On Monday (Aug. 16), The Weeknd showed his gratitude for his latest musical feats and some exciting birthdays: His second mixtape Thursday celebrates its 10th anniversary on Wednesday, while his dog Caesar recently turned 4. “Forever grateful to be able to experiment with sounds, try new things with my voice and create music with the people I truly love and respect,” he captioned the post, which features a rather blinding shot of the singer, a man who appears to be The Weeknd obscuring his face behind balloons emblematic of his 2011 House of Balloons project, and a comic of The Weeknd slapping at his old red-suit-jacket-wearing self for singing the hook of “Blinding Lights” while screaming at him, “The Dawn Is Coming!!!!!” The 31-year-old star&...
Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001, INXS remain one of the country’s “most adored and iconic acts,” Herd notes. The hits collection was released in 2011 and features such classics as “Never Tear Us Apart,” “Original Sin” and Billboard Hot 100 leader “Need You Tonight.” Last November, The Very Best was awarded “Diamond” status, for combined sales in-excess of 500,000 in Australia. During its journey, The Very Best ruled the national tally for seven weeks and came in at No. 1 on ARIA’s End Of Decade Australian Albums Chart. “It is truly amazing news, to hear INXS’s The Very Best has been in the Top 100 album charts for nine years,” comments founding band member Andrew Farriss. INXS formed 44 years ago in Perth, Western Australia, and would g...

Nas scores his 15th top 10 album on the Billboard 200, and highest charting effort since 2012, as King’s Disease II debuts at No. 3. Of that sum, SEA units comprise 35,000 (equaling 47.44 million on-demand streams of the set’s songs), album sales comprise 19,000 and TEA units comprise a little over 1,000. King’s Disease II was announced only a week before its release, on July 29, and is the sequel to King’s Disease, which was released in 2020 and debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 (dated Sept. 5, 2020). The new album is Nas’ highest-charting set since 2012’s Life Is Good debuted at ...
