The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 Review: More Mediocre Than Magical

The Pitch: When we last saw the titular character in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Amazon Prime comedy, things were looking quite bad for her. Despite killing at The Apollo, Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) has been fired from Shy Baldwin’s tour, thanks to some jokes that alluded a bit too closely to his status as a closeted gay man. This left her abandoned on the tarmac with Susie (Alex Borstein), who, unbeknownst to Midge, had lost all of Midge’s hard-earned money thanks to a combination of gambling problems and general managerial irresponsibility. Meet Me on the West Side: Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel picks up shortly after these events in a familiar setting — Midge, onstage, cigarette in hand, seemingly killing at a club in The Village. The cliffhanger of Season 3 seemed to ...

Space Force Season 2 Review: A Big Improvement That Leaves You Wanting More

The Pitch: The original pitch was simple: In 2019, the 45th President of the United States announced a plan for a Space Force branch of the U.S. military. To Steve Carell and Greg Daniels (who previously worked together on The Office), that sounded pretty ridiculous, so they successfully pitched Netflix on a satirical version of what such a “space force” would look like, with Carell as the general in charge. Unfortunately, Season 1 of Netflix’s Space Force… didn’t quite work. Despite the assembly of a surprise-packed ensemble, including awkward comedy G.O.A.T. Carell, human live wire Ben Schwartz, secret MVP Tawny Newsome, and wild card John Malkovich, there was something just off in how the writing and acting and directing jelled together — and to the credit of Carell and Daniels, they no...

10 Wayne’s World Quotes You Probably Say All the Time

Happy 30th birthday to Wayne’s World, which was released on this day in 1992. In celebration, we’re dusting off a few oldie but goodie articles; you can check them all out here. Party on! Wayne’s World is one of the most quotable films of all time. For every “Schwing!”, there are at least half a dozen “We’re not worthy!”s right behind it, and if you’re a true fan, you can probably recite Alice Cooper’s entire Mill-e-wah-que monologue from memory. Unbeknownst to many of us, a handful of the film’s quotes have become a part of our own everyday life — colloquialisms, if you will. They’re kinda like a new pair of underwear: At first, they’re constrictive, but after a while they become a part of you. He’s since hosted in each subsequent season, making him one of the fastest hosts to join the illustrious Five-Timers Club (three years and 320 days, to be exact). In fact, only Steve Martin and Buck Henry joined the club in a shorter time frame. Following Mulaney’s most recent turn as host in October 2020, he entered rehab for substance abuse. After completing treatment, he began dating actress Olivia Munn. The couple welcomed their first child in December 2021. Mula...

Former Simpsons Composer Alf Clausen Drops Disability Discrimination Lawsuit Against Fox

In 2017, Alf Clausen — the man behind the music for each episode of The Simpsons for 27 seasons — was fired, prompting the composer to file a wrongful termination lawsuit against Fox. Now, Variety reports that Clausen has dropped the lawsuit. Clausen, who was 78 at the time he was fired, filed the suit in August 2019, alleging that Fox let him go from the show due to his age and Parkinson’s diagnosis. A judge dismissed part of the lawsuit in 2020, saying Clausen did not have enough evidence to back up his claims of age discrimination, but he could proceed with his disability discrimination claim. Fox appealed the judge’s ruling, and Clausen’s attorney, Ebby Bakhtiar, told Variety that the justices seemed unlikely to rule in Clausen’s favor. Instead of putting Clausen at risk...

Jon Stewart to Receive 2022 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor

“The secret source of Humor itself is not joy but sorrow,” Mark Twain wrote in 1897. He might have been talking about Jon Stewart, the former Daily Show host who is once again mining life’s agonies for laughs with his Apple TV+ program The Problem with Jon Stewart. In honor of his accomplishments, Stewart will be awarded the 2022 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on April 24th. Via Rolling Stone, Stewart said in a statement, “I am truly honored to receive this award. I have long admired and been influenced by the work of Mark Twain, or, as he was known by his given name, Samuel Leibowitz.” (It was actually Samuel Langhorne Clemens.) “For more than three decades, Jon Stewart has brightened our lives and ch...
