Police move to rescue abducted Oyo farmer
The Oyo State Police Command said it is making frantic efforts to rescue Mr Oluwole Agboola, a farmer, who was abducted on Monday by six gunmen allegedly dressed in Army uniform. Agboola, who owns a piggery and fish farm at Nagbede Village in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, was reportedly kidnapped in his farm at about 6.30 p.m. SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan. Fadeyi stated that the community had also intensified its efforts to complement the deployment of security operatives in the area to rescue the victim. Kaduna begins community policing with 272 constabulary
Community policing has gotten a boost in Kaduna on Tuesday as 272 Police Constabulary pass out from training school. The State governor, Nasir El-Rufai while addressing the newly recruited constabulary described community policing as a good initiative. He also said the system of policing has come to stay in the State. The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Internal security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, charged the community police personnel to enhance internal security in the State. Former Kogi council chairman kidnapped
Gunmen have kidnapped a former Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area in Kogi, Mr Emmanuel Ekpa. The state police command spokesman, DSP William Aya, who confirmed this on Sunday in Lokoja said that Akpa was kidnapped along Ochadamu Road in Ofu Local Government Area. He said a police patrol team attached to Ofu discovered the abandoned car of the victim at Ochadamu area in the late hours of Friday, December 18. “On close scrutiny, they found an abandoned ID card in the vehicle bearing the name Emmanuel Isaac Ekpa, apparently indicating that he was kidnapped by gunmen,” Aya said. The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, CP Mike Okoli, has suspended all casual leave and directed all officers of the Command to be on red alert during the Yuletide. 10-year old girl throws step-brother into well in Ondo
A 10 year old girl identified as Suliyat Abubakar has allegedly thrown his step brother into the well in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The girl said she took the action because her father showed more love to her step brother more than her and her other siblings. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, who paraded the girl at the state police command, Akure said the suspect would be prosecuted accordingly. He said the young girl was arrested behind the Central Mosque, Akure. Police ordered to arraign suspect detained for one year
The Independent Investigative Panel probing police brutality in Abuja, on Thursday, gave the police a six-day ultimatum to arraign a suspect, Raphael Toona, who has been in detention for about one year. The Chairman of the panel, Justice Suleiman Galadima (retd.), ordered that Toona should be arraigned on or before December 23. Justice Galadima gave the order following an application by Toona’s lawyer, N. T. Utasha, urging the panel to order the police to either release the suspect or arraign him in court. “The first complaint (Toona) should be taken to Benue State to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction on or before December 23, 2020 where his bail should be considered, considering the fact that he has been in detention for more than a year,” Justice Galadima ordered. Police recruit 503 special constables in Nasarawa
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has engaged 503 Special Constables (SCP) for community policing in Nasarawa State, to enhance intelligence gathering in tackling insecurity and crime. Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4, Mr. Jonah John, made the disclosure on Monday in Lafia, at a one-day sensitisation campaign on community policing in Nasarawa. According to him, 49 of the 503 recruited SCP have successfully undergone training and posted to their various communities in the state to serve. Rising crime in Lagos due to damage to police assets – LSSTF chief
The Executive Secretary/CEO Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Mr Abdurrazaq Balogun, has blamed the rising crime across Lagos in the past weeks to the damage done to police assets and the number of lethal weapons in the possession of non-state actors. Balogun disclosed this during the 14th Town Hall Meeting on security, organised by the LSSTF, with the theme, “Lagos security: Resilience in the face of adversity,” held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island. Man arrested with stolen car in Ogun
A Lagos-based car wash operator, Idris Ayotunde, who absconded with a customer’s car, has been arrested in Odeda, Ogun State. Ayotunde was arrested at Alakija village via Olodo at the weekend by Safer Highway Patrol team who were on stop-and-search duty on the Abeokuta/Ibadan expressway. The police in Cross River State have paraded Cyprian Mbe (52) for allegedly dealing in arms. He was arrested during a stop and search action by the police divisional patrol team in Etung Local Government Area. Mbe, a native of Bashia in Boki council, was arrested at the weekend with 299 live cartridges concealed in a black bag.
