Morgan Wallen Tells Supporters ‘Please Don’t’ Defend Me in New Apology Video

A week after a video emerged of Morgan Wallen using the N-word, Wallen has released a five-minute video announcing that he has met with Black leaders and that he has been sober for nine days. “The video you saw was me on hour 72 of 72 of a bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of,” he says. “I accepted some invitations from some amazing Black organizations, some executives and leaders, to engage in some very real and honest conversations.” Admitting he was nervous to accept the invitations because of his hurtful behavior, he added, “They had every right to step on my neck … to not show me any grace, but they did the exact opposite. They offered me grace and also paired that with an offer to learn and grow. … That kindness really inspired me to dig deeper on how to do ...

Nigerian government approves new debt management strategy

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy for Nigeria (MTDS) for the period 2020-2023. With the approval, announced during Wednesday’s virtual FEC meeting, the DMO which is saddled with managing the nation’s debt matters, has promised full implementation to support economic development while ensuring that public debt is sustainable. The MTDS is a policy document which provides a guide to the borrowing activities of the government in the medium-term, usually four years. It is recognised as one of the best practices in public debt management and is recommended by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ensure that public debt management is driven by a well-articulated strategy that is structured to meet a country’s broader mac...

Florida Georgia Line Livestream Concert Will Raise Money for Businesses Affected by Nashville Bombing

Amazon Music, Florida Georgia Line, CMT and Big Machine Label Group have each donated to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Nashville Neighbors Fund, which supports local businesses affected by the Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville. Grants will be made available to nonprofits providing immediate and long-term services for those impacted by the explosion, and virtual concertgoers can contribute their own donations during the livestream via Tiltify. “We’ve definitely been missing the road, our band, and especially our fans. We can’t think of a better reason to team up with our CMT family and hit the stage at FGL House in support of our fellow downtown Nashville merchants affected by the bombing,” FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard said in ...

Country Queer Publisher On T.J. Osborne, Morgan Wallen & Moving the Genre Forward

The country industry’s response to those two developments was a tad surprising: Osborne was roundly supported, while Wallen was admonished and/or punished and/or dropped by his label, his booking agency, radio, the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. The reaction is opposite of what would have been expected in the genre during a previous era. And that’s part of the reason that CountryQueer.com exists. The country culture is experiencing a major realignment, and — as Osborne addressed in the Time piece — the progressive and conservative wings of the industry and its fans are looking at the same issues through completely different lenses. “This is the kind of central question about American culture, and country’s place in it, that we’ve b...

2023: Group begs Yahaya Bello to join presidential race

As the preparations for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023 intensifies, a diaspora group known as Governor Yahaya Bello Solidarity Movement, has joined the voices calling on Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to join the race. Coordinator of the group, Joy Robinson, in a statement issued in Abuja said, that their decision to back the governor is because there’s need for what she called a competent, energetic, detribalised, progressive, courageous and a religious leader to oversee the affairs of the country. The group noted that anybody with such qualities would assist in taking the country away from the current social and economic problems facing the country, saying Bello possessed all these in addition to being a youth with a track record of performance. According to it, “After considerin...
