Taylor Swift released her refreshed version of “Love Story” on Friday morning (Feb. 12) and her biggest A-list fans are already obsessed with it. Mindy Kaling put it best with the tweet, “God I love this song,” about the zhuzh’d up version of the beloved song, which has a reconfigured opening section and louder strings than the original. Because we can’t be together to dance and sing at the top of our lungs together, the Vamps’ James McVey did it for us, tweeting, “Romeo taaaake meeeee,” while Hayley Kiyoko addressed the elephant in the room with the Insta Story caption, “Also this is still absolute MADNESS you have to do this but so proud of you @taylorswift13 Taylor’s version is the only version :)” You Deserve to Make Mone...

Two men bag three years in jail for drug trafficking

A Federal High Court, sitting in Jos on Thursday, sentenced two men, Masa’udu Ishaku, 28, and Isiaka Garba, 30, to three years imprisonment each for trafficking 868 kilogrammes of Tramadol. Justice Musa Kurya sentenced the defendants after they changed their pleas to guilty for drug trafficking. Kurya held that since the defendants changed their pleas to guilty, and also pleaded for leniency, he would temper Justice with mercy. “You are hereby sentenced to three years imprisonment each, beginning from the day you were remanded in the Correctional Centre. “This sentence is to serve as a deterrent to other young people out there, who might think of engaging in such criminal act,’’ he said. Kurya, who frowned at the increased cases of young people trafficking hard drugs in the country, pledge...

Super Eagles boss wants Ahmed Musa to sort out his career before Afcon qualifiers

Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr hopes to see his captain Ahmed Musa back to action ahead of their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March. The three-time African champions will take on the Republic of Benin and Lesotho in their last Afcon qualifying games next month. Musa has been without a club since October when he left Saudi Arabian side Al Nass by mutual agreement. The forward starred for Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow before moving to England to team up with Leicester City. The Super Eagles winger struggled to establish himself at the King Power Stadium and in an effort to enjoy more playing time, he left for Saudi in 2018. The forward is now looking to returning to Europe and has been heavily linked to Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. Rohr is hopeful ...

Dwight Yoakam Sues Warner Music Group to Reclaim Early Recordings

Yoakam is demanding the court affirmatively rule that the songs should automatically return to him at the end of the right’s period termination. He is also seeking an excess of $1 million in damages against WMG. “Having profited and benefited off of Mr. Yoakam for 35 years, [WMG] do not want their gravy train to end, and have therefore refused to acknowledge and accept Mr. Yoakam’s valid Notices of Termination served properly under Section 203 of the United States Copyright of 1976 in blatant disregard of Mr. Yoakam’s rights,” states the complaint. The Copyright Act permits authors to terminate the grant of their copyright during a five-year window beginning five years from the end of 35 years from the date of execution of the grant; or, if the grant covers the right of publication of the ...

Morgan Wallen Tells Supporters ‘Please Don’t’ Defend Me in New Apology Video

A week after a video emerged of Morgan Wallen using the N-word, Wallen has released a five-minute video announcing that he has met with Black leaders and that he has been sober for nine days. “The video you saw was me on hour 72 of 72 of a bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of,” he says. “I accepted some invitations from some amazing Black organizations, some executives and leaders, to engage in some very real and honest conversations.” Admitting he was nervous to accept the invitations because of his hurtful behavior, he added, “They had every right to step on my neck … to not show me any grace, but they did the exact opposite. They offered me grace and also paired that with an offer to learn and grow. … That kindness really inspired me to dig deeper on how to do ...

Nigerian government approves new debt management strategy

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new Medium-Term Debt Management Strategy for Nigeria (MTDS) for the period 2020-2023. With the approval, announced during Wednesday’s virtual FEC meeting, the DMO which is saddled with managing the nation’s debt matters, has promised full implementation to support economic development while ensuring that public debt is sustainable. The MTDS is a policy document which provides a guide to the borrowing activities of the government in the medium-term, usually four years. It is recognised as one of the best practices in public debt management and is recommended by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ensure that public debt management is driven by a well-articulated strategy that is structured to meet a country’s broader mac...

Florida Georgia Line Livestream Concert Will Raise Money for Businesses Affected by Nashville Bombing

Amazon Music, Florida Georgia Line, CMT and Big Machine Label Group have each donated to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Nashville Neighbors Fund, which supports local businesses affected by the Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville. Grants will be made available to nonprofits providing immediate and long-term services for those impacted by the explosion, and virtual concertgoers can contribute their own donations during the livestream via Tiltify. “We’ve definitely been missing the road, our band, and especially our fans. We can’t think of a better reason to team up with our CMT family and hit the stage at FGL House in support of our fellow downtown Nashville merchants affected by the bombing,” FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard said in ...

Country Queer Publisher On T.J. Osborne, Morgan Wallen & Moving the Genre Forward

The country industry’s response to those two developments was a tad surprising: Osborne was roundly supported, while Wallen was admonished and/or punished and/or dropped by his label, his booking agency, radio, the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. The reaction is opposite of what would have been expected in the genre during a previous era. And that’s part of the reason that CountryQueer.com exists. The country culture is experiencing a major realignment, and — as Osborne addressed in the Time piece — the progressive and conservative wings of the industry and its fans are looking at the same issues through completely different lenses. “This is the kind of central question about American culture, and country’s place in it, that we’ve b...

Ultimately we are stronger together than apar...

The Court of Appeal President, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, on Tuesday, harped on the need for female judges in the country to be united. She stressed that unity amongst female judges is crucial if they must succeed and excel in their career, adding that they are “despised specie”. She gave the charge when a delegate of the National Association of Women Judges in Nigeria (NAWJN) paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja. The delegation was led by the secretary of the association, Justice Esther Lolo of the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
