As music festival organizers continue to navigate the complexities of COVID-19 restrictions, the nation’s largest electronic dance music event promoter has announced new safety measures impacting all of its fests. According to CEO Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac Events will now require prospective attendees to provide proof of full vaccination (both jabs) or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of any given event. The decision has the feel of a watershed moment for the electronic music event space, wherein many promoters have refrained from instating similar mandates with hopes that restrictions will soon be lifted. Ubiquitously considered the leading festival organizer in the EDM industry, Insomniac has 12 U.S. fests scheduled before the end of 2021 as of this report&...
Harry Styles is the latest artist to announce a coronavirus policy for his upcoming tour. According to a new statement from the artist, ticket holders must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours prior to attending any of his shows. Additionally, fans will be required to wear a mask throughout the entire concert, too. “Requiring testing, or proof of vaccination, is the best way to protect the health and safety of our crew and fans, and is quickly becoming the new standard for concerts around the US,” reads a press release. “There will be no exceptions to these policies.” As such, all venue staff at each show will also be abiding by these same protocols. There are two dates that will require all attendees to be fully vaccinated, where ...
Here’s some news that’ll make you want to “Break Ya Neck”: a clip has resurfaced of a Busta Rhymes performance from earlier this summer, during which the legendary MC went on a heated rant slamming mask mandates in the wake of spiking COVID-19 cases. Back in June, just as concerns about the Delta variant took precedence in the US, Busta voiced his ill-advised frustrations during his set as the surprise headliner at the Seoul Taco’s 10th anniversary block party in Missouri. The clip is now being recirculated on social media. “This is my second show in front of human life in the last 15 fucking months,” the rapper told the crowd in-between cheers. “COVID can suck a dick. All these little weird-ass government policies and mandates — suck a dick.” “It’s called the God-given right of freedom, r...
An unintentional slip of the tongue from New Zealand’s COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins could be a catalyst for the career of one local music producer. At a press conference over the weekend, Hipkins was addressing the notion that Kiwis living in high-density areas face the struggle of being unable to get outside without posing a risk to public health. However, in the moment he used some awkward phrasing, leading to a blunder in which he said Kiwis were looking to get out and “spread their legs” instead of “stretch their legs.” The gaffe wasn’t lost on anybody, including local dance music radio station George FM, who are now calling on music producers and DJs to give their best attempt at remixing the humorous audio clip. The station is off...
Blessings are tough enough to count in the age of COVID-19, but if you’re a Desert Hearts fan in Denver last weekend, that’s probably why you went to Church. In their first Denver show in almost two years, the Church Nightclub hosted Mikey Lion, Marbs, Lee Reynolds, and Porky for a triumphant collaborative performance. Through the stained glass portraits and glittering lights beneath the steeple, a five-hour barrage of house music bliss enraptured the sold-out crowd. A true blessing to music fans—especially given the impact of the pandemic—the event almost didn’t happen because despite being vaccinated in the weeks approaching the show, one of the crew, Marbs, contracted the virus. That meant everyone to get tested—and fast. Mikey Lion and Lee Reynolds throwing down behind the decks a...
On August 21st, hundreds of Dutch music organizations carried out the #UnmuteUs protest through six Dutch cities. Hoping to make their voices heard amid a lack of clarity from the government regarding the future of music festivals, over 70,000 people marched in protest of the current COVID-19 restrictions impacting the arts sector. While many in the Netherlands were hopeful of the return of live music events this summer, the Dutch government reportedly had other plans. In July, officials announced an extension of a ban on music festivals in the country—lasting until at least September 19th—due to ongoing risks to public health. The #UnmuteUs protest attracted over 70,000 people. AP Photo/Peter Dejong With nowhere to turn, a flock of festival organizers planned #UnmuteUs. “A...
