Earlier this summer BUKU Music + Art Project announced a diverse lineup for their one-of-a-kind boutique event, dubbed Planet B. The festival has now sadly been canceled due to the impact of COVID-19. In a statement released via social media, BUKU: Planet B organizers addressed the inability to safely proceed with the fest given the current and projected conditions of COVID-19 in Louisiana. “As you’ve probably seen, Louisiana is getting rocked by COVID again and it’s causing large events in the state to cancel,” the statement reads. “We’ve spent the last couple weeks trying to hang on, but don’t see a guaranteed path forward under the current & projected public health conditions.” BUKU Music + Art Project Recommended Articl...

With each passing day, more and more artists and promoters are asking for proof of vaccination as a requirement to attend in-person events. In response to this growing trend, the multi-platinum country musician Travis Tritt felt compelled “to make a statement” against such mandates, likening them to a form of discrimination. “In light of recently announced policies and mandates from some entertainment companies, promoters and local municipalities which would discriminate against specific concert attendees who are not vaccinated, I feel compelled to make a statement,” Tritt said. “I have always been a huge defender of basic human rights and liberty for all. No government, employer or private entity should ever be allowed to infringe on those rights and liberties. I’m also very much against ...
The day after Los Angeles topped 4,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time since January, the Television Academy announced that everyone attending the 2021 Emmy Awards must provide proof of full vaccination in addition to a negative COVID test. The requirement is stricter than most other live events in the pandemic era, as many venues have mandated one or the other but not both. The Primetime Emmy Awards take place Sunday, September 19th at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. The audience has been limited to just nominees and a guest, and they will be required to take a COVID test on or after Friday, September 17th. If you’ve been following venue testing closely, you’re probably used to thinking of testing windows as either 72 hours or 48 hours. The maximum testing window for the Emmys would be 6...
I.M.P., the independent concert promoter that operates four beloved venues in Washington DC and Maryland, has announced strict new policies designed to combat the spread of COVID-19. Beginning October 17th, anyone attending a performance at The Anthem, 9:30 Club, Merriweather Post Pavilion, or Lincoln Theatre will need to provide proof of full vaccination status to enter. Currently, I.M.P. venues require either confirmation of vaccination status or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours. Now, the option to display test results has been eliminated for all but a few patrons: those under 12, who are not eligible for vaccination anyway; and those with a doctor-certified medical exception. Instead, these ticketholders must provide a negative PCR test administered within 48 hours of entry. Ad...
The 2021 edition of Amsterdam Dance Event, the world’s premier electronic music summit, is in jeopardy after the Dutch government’s latest clamp on nightlife. Amid a surge of COVID-19 cases in the Netherlands, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge organized a press conference last week to announce that Dutch nightclubs must remain shuttered until November 1st. “I realize that this is again a hard message and that more was hoped for,” Rutte said. “The work in these sectors can continue, but with one hand tied behind their back for the time being.” ADE is scheduled for October 13-17, painting a grim picture for what was supposed to be the event’s triumphant return after going virtual in 2020. Organizers recently c...
With cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant on the rise, health and government officials in Los Angeles County have announced new safety measures in the city. Their latest mandate will require all people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings when attending “Outdoor Mega-Events,” defined as having a crowd size of 10,000 or more. The mandate, which covers music festivals, sporting events, parades and more, officially goes into effect today, August 19th at 11:59PM. It also stacks on top of an existing county-wide order instated in July that requires people to wear masks in public indoor spaces. “COVID-19 infection remains a significant health hazard to all residents,” the order states. “We must remain vigilant against variant...

Less than a month after Farm Aid 2021 was announced, one of the founders of the fundraiser, Neil Young, has withdrawn from the concert over concerns about COVID-19. In a statement on the Neil Young Archives, the venerable songwriter wrote, “My soul tells me it would be wrong.” Young is a Farm Aid board member alongside Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews, all of whom are expected to perform. “While I respect Willie, John and Dave’s decisions to stick with it and play, I am not of the same mind,” Young wrote. “It is a tough call.” As he explained his thinking, “I find myself wondering whether Farmaid will be safe for everyone with the Covid pandemic surging. I worry about that. I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for ev...
