Danny Boyle Brings Anarchy to TV

London in the late 1970s was trash. Literally. Every street was lined with bags of refuse. Flies buzzed around moldy garbage that often sat for weeks at a time. The haulers were on strike. Prime Minister James Callaghan ignored the trade unions’ demands for higher pay. When pressed by the media over the widespread strikes, Callaghan remarked, “I don’t think that other people in the world would share the view that there is mounting chaos.” What a dolt. Meanwhile, around the city, in the abandoned warehouses and the seedy pubs, a noise was amplifying. At first it sounded like a simple eclectic hum. A single frequency crawling out into the world, learning to feed itself. And it did. This noise evolved into something we call a C major chord. Growing, the noise slithered its way to an A minor c...

Bradley Cooper Is Unrecognizable as Leonard Bernstein in ‘Maestro’ First Look Photos

Netflix unveiled a glimpse at their new film Maestro on Monday (May 30), including Bradley Cooper‘s jaw-dropping transformation as West Side Story composer Leonard Bernstein. In the photos released from set, a ’50s-era Cooper is rendered in black and white alongside Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife, actress Felicia Montealegre. He’s also miraculously aged up to portray the conductor in the 1980s, when he was in his 60s, using makeup and a wig. In one snap, he sits behind a desk, virtually unrecognizable as a cigarette burns between his fingers; in another, he paces in an auditorium as he waves his finger, either conducting the action on stage or giving a note. Shoresy Digs Deep into Canadian Hockey Culture Without Giving Up the Letterkenny Laughs

The best hockey player in the history of Letterkenny, Ontario is back in action. From the hicks, skids and degens who made Letterkenny a stunningly big cult hit, Shoresy is a hockey-based spinoff following the foul-mouthed player of the same name. For those out of the loop, the popular Canadian sitcom created by Jared Keeso and Jacob Tierney celebrated its 10th season last year, and now the Hulu and Crave-powered crew is following Keeso’s formerly faceless hockey stud on his journey to the Sudbury Bulldogs. But whereas Letterkenny is largely built around its stable of existing characters (including Keeso’s “Wayne,” Tierney’s “Glen,” and Shoresy Consulting Producer Kaniehtiio Horn’s “Tanis”), Shoresy brings in an almost entirely new cast, with more of an emphasis on a somewhat traditional s...
