For the fifth night of Hanukkah, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin brought in Violet Grohl to perform “Take The Box” by Amy Winehouse for their Hanukkah Sessions. [embedded content][embedded content] “Despite this song’s mention of a ‘Moschino bra you bought me last Christmas,’ it’s common knowledge that the amazing woman behind the song was actually Jewish,” the YouTube video’s description reads. “Gone far too soon…Ms. Amy Winehouse and ‘Take The Box.’” So far, the Grammy-winning duo has performed “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb, “Blitzkrieg Bop” by the Ramones, “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow, and “Jump” by Van Halen. The last of which was approved by none other than Wolfgang Van Halen himself. Oh fuck yeah! 🤘 https://t.co/SsZoA9kIjL — Wolf Van Halen 🐺 🚐 🙌...
On the fourth night of Hanukkah and in the latest edition of the Hanukkah Sessions, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin took on Van Halen’s “Jump.” [embedded content][embedded content] The song is a tribute to Van Halen’s Jewish frontman, David Lee Roth, who was previously immortalized in Adam Sander’s “Hanukkah Song.” The duo has performed covers of “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb, “Blitzkrieg Bop” by the Ramones, and “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow this Hanukkah so far, and there are four more nights of anticipating who they may cover next. Last year’s Hanukkah Sessions’ covers had a great range in various genres, and this year (so far) is prominently rock ‘n’ roll filled. But, hey, over here, no one’s complaining. With Kurstin’s helping hand to Adele’s recently released, widely-acclaimed ...
Back for the third night of Hanukkah and as the latest entry in their Hanukkah Sessions, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin shared another cover. This time, they tackled Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” (raise your hand if you saw that coming?) to honor the Festival of Lights. [embedded content][embedded content] “Barry Pincus – not only one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th (or any) century, but a mega-mensch to boot!” he said in a tweet. “So, like a good neighbor, you deserve a break today. So grab a bucket of chicken and let’s get stuck on…@barrymanilow’s “Copacabana”! So far, Grohl and Kurstin have covered Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You” with a metal twist and a more traditional version of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” The rockin’ duo decided to celebrate Hanukkah again this year rather t...
Yesterday, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin kicked off the second edition of the Hanukkah Sessions, covering Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You).” Tonight, the duo took on the Ramones‘ classic “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Unlike yesterday’s rendition, Grohl and Kurstin’s Ramones cover stays pretty true to the original except for a slight lyrical twist. [embedded content][embedded content] In a tweet, Grohl kept it simple. “Once upon a time, two nice Jewish boys from Queens named Jeffery Hyman and Thomas Erdelyi changed the world forever with their music….. as Joey and Tommy Ramone!” Around this time last year, Grohl (who is not Jewish) and Kurstin (who is Jewish) first decided to celebrate the eight nights leading up to the Festival of Lights with the Hanukkah Sessions. “This year, instead of doing a Ch...
While we spent our holidays in lockdown last year, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin gave us something to smile about with the Hanukkah Sessions. With vaccines now widely available, we’re able to spend time with our loved ones this year, but that’s not stopping Grohl and Kurstin to reignite their daily covers during the Festival of Lights. To kick things off, the duo covered Lisa Loeb’s “Stay (I Missed You).” At first, things seem to be a like-for-like cover, before things take a heavy, Sepultura-esque turn. [embedded content][embedded content] Last year, the duo covered The Velvet Underground’s “Rock and Roll,” The Knacks’ “Frustrated,” Elastica’s “Connection,” Bob Dylan‘s “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35,” Peaches‘ “Fuck the Pain Away,” Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen,” Drake’s “Hotl...
“Well this is nice, this is quaint,” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl said, taking in the audience Thursday night at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio. He tucked his mane behind both ears like a professor adjusting his reading glasses. It’s been a while since Grohl, 52, could recognize faces from the stage since he mostly performs to thousands in football stadiums. “How the hell did everyone get tickets for this?” Grohl joked. “I’m just assuming, a good internet connection?” The spectacular one-off show marked the beginning of Rock Hall weekend. On Saturday, a Beatle will induct all six members — Grohl, guitarists Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, bassist Nate Mendel, and drummer Taylor Hawkins — into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Foos...
The groundbreaking Nirvana record Nevermind celebrated its 30th birthday last month. Along with the buzz from commemorating the record, other news surrounding the notorious naked baby cover continued to arise. In August, Spencer Elden, a.k.a. the naked baby, sued Nirvana’s surviving members, Kurt Cobain’s estate, album-cover photographer Kirk Weddle, and the labels involved in the album’s release, alleging sexual exploitation and that the cover is child pornography. Dave Grohl recently discussed that Nevermind reissues could possibly bear new art, in light of the lawsuit. “I have many ideas of how we should alter that cover, but we’ll see what happens,” Grohl told The Times Magazine. “We’ll let you know. I’m sure we’ll come up with something good … I think that there’s much more to look fo...
Even rockers lend one another a helping hand in a time of need. And it’s no surprise that Dave Grohl literally lent his throne to Seattle metal bassist Darin Wall. Wall is recovering from a gunshot wound that occurred when he stopped a gunman entering the band’s concert in early September. Wall and his band Greyhawk were set to perform, and he shoved 26-year-old Ethan Byrd, who attempted to enter the venue. Byrd shot Wall in the leg, and Wall had to rest for three weeks before returning to the stage. Grohl caught wind of the incident when Wall joked on a radio show about using the throne at an upcoming gig. “[Grohl] called me from the MTV VMA Awards and he said, ‘I’ll ship that throne up to you at my expense,” Wall told KING 5 News. Greyhawk performed again on September 26, and Wall used G...

Dave Grohl is releasing his first book, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, on October 5, and now we’ve got a new look into what will be in it. The trailer for Grohl’s memoir features old home videos and his decision to write about his life. “My life flashes before my eyes every single day. And in writing this book, I’ve tried to capture those moments as best I can,” he says. Grohl continues by explaining that for the first time in a long time when the pandemic hit, he had time on his hands. Initially starting off by writing stories for fun on an Instagram page, the Foo Fighters frontman discovered his passion for writing and came up with the idea for his own memoir.
