The People’s Joker, an unauthorized queer coming-of-age movie set in the Batman universe, has been pulled from Toronto International Film Festival after a single screening “due to rights issues.” Helmed by and starring Los Angeles-based director Vera Drew, the film was scheduled for three more showings at TIFF following its premiere as part of the festival’s Midnight Madness programming on Tuesday, September 13th. Billed in the description of its trailer as “completely unlicensed by DC and Warner Bros.,” The People’s Joker was likely trying to operate under US fair use laws for parody. According to IndieWire, however, Warner Bros. Discovery informed the filmmaker of “a copyright issue” over the movie’s use of characters including Joker and “a Harlequin a la DC’s Harley Quinn...
For all the havoc he wreaks on Gotham, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the Joker. DC’s comic book series Flashpoint Beyond has divulged some crucial info, however, finally unveiling his very familiar-sounding name: Jack White. In issue #5 of Flashpoint Beyond — a sequel to 2011’s DC-universe-altering Flashpoint — Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne (this universe’s Batman), heads to Arkham Asylum to meet with his estranged, incarcerated wife Martha (this universe’s Joker). Martha tells Thomas that she forced Psycho-Pirate, a villain notable for having extensive knowledge of the multiverse, to reveal everything he knew about the main DC Universe timeline, including the Joker’s real name — which, of course, he shares with the former White Stripes frontman. Tha...
The Sandman will officially bring us a dream next month, but we’ve got a lot to look forward to now thanks to Netflix’s latest trailer for the Neil Gaiman comic book adaptation. The newest trailer focuses on the conflict between Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) and a rogue nightmare that has escaped to the waking world, the Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook). “My creations do not walk among the living killing mortals for pleasure,” Morpheus says in the new trailer, though his words are undercut by violent spurts of blood. Meanwhile, the Corinthian is having the time of his un-life. “Oh, you don’t think dreams can’t die? Let’s find out,” he smirks. Check out the trailer below. Based on Gaiman’s DC series of the same name, The Sandman premieres on August 5th and co-stars Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer,...

Paul Dano didn’t just play The Riddler in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, he got inside the villain’s head. Now he’s ready to put that knowledge to good use with Riddler: Year One, a new DC comic book due out in October. DC Comics unveiled their newest property in a social media post. “A new Riddler comic book hits stores this October with RIDDLER: YEAR ONE,” the announcement read. It also included a first look at the artwork, which shows a very suggestive pair of glasses framing the title. What they did not share was the artist responsible for that first look, thereby continuing a long tradition of comic book companies screwing over the less-well-known people who make their comics. There are other mysteries at this time, too, including the plot of Riddler: Yea...
When the musical Bat-Signal appears, the eyes of Gotham turn to electronic music: Alesso, Peggy Gou, Baauer and more are all featured on the soundtrack for The Batman, now in theaters. In fact, even the film’s lead, Robert Pattinson, tried his hand at crafting ambient tracks during downtime on set—while wearing his Batsuit, no less. The music of Kevin Saunderson, Patrick Topping and Corvad, as well as of icons like Nirvana, Dean Martin and Al Martino, fills in the gaps where Pattinson’s music quite didn’t make the cut. “As a die hard [sic] Batman fan I can’t believe I have a song in the new movie,” added Alesso, who contributed “DARK” to the film. Leslie Grace has shared the first look at herself as Batgirl in the upcoming HBO Max film. In the film, Grace plays Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, who eventually assumes her own superhero identity as Batgirl. J.K. Simmons, who previously portrayed Commissioner Gordon in Justice League, will reprise the role in Batgirl. Michael Keaton, who set to return as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie, is also part of the Batgirl cast, while Brendan Fraser will play the film’s villain, Firefly. In revealing the first look at Batgirl, Grace quoted a line from the Batgirl, Year One comic: “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick...
Holy Bat-nostalgia! Michael Keaton is reportedly reprising his iconic role as Bruce Wayne/Batman for the upcoming Batgirl movie. As The Hollywood Reporter has it, production on the film is already underway in London, but a new cast list sent to media includes Keaton’s surprise appearance. The actor is already dusting off the ol’ cape and cowl from 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns for his upcoming multiversal role in The Flash movie. It now appears it’ll be a little while longer before the suit goes back in the closet, though it’s unclear exactly how it will all work. Batgirl is rumored to be set within the Snyderverse of Justice League (seemingly confirmed by J.K. Simmons reprising his role as Commissioner Jim Gordon), so how Keaton’s Batman will factor into a world p...
