Napoli has denied reports from Italian media that Nigerian doctors complicated Victor Osimhen’s shoulder during the first treatment. Tuttosport claimed Napoli medic revealed that their Nigerian counterparts caused more damage to the shoulder in the process of treatment before he returned to Italy. However, Napoli and the player on Saturday afternoon took to their social media handle to debunk the reports and clear the Super Eagles team doctor of any wrongdoing. “The current situation regarding the injury of Victor Osimhen is only a consequence of the dislocated right shoulder,” Napoli said in a tweet. Osimhen dislocated his shoulder while in action for Super Eagles of Nigeria last month at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The striker went down in the second under a challenge fro...
Thomas Tuchel says he “understands” criticism of Paris Saint-Germain but dismissed its credibility when coming from fans and journalists watching from a “sofa”. PSG were out of sorts in the Champions League on Tuesday, as last season’s beaten finalists scraped a narrow 1-0 win at RB Leipzig. The decisive goal, an 11th-minute Neymar penalty, was one of just three shots on target mustered by PSG over the course of the match. Tuchel said after the game that he would not apologise for winning in a somewhat ugly fashion, with Leipzig enjoying 63 per cent of possession and managing 15 shots in total. He put the underwhelming performance down to fatigue caused by the team’s packed schedule, though it was not their only unimpressive display in recent months. Before Tuesday, PSG had lost three of t...
Arsenal defender, Shkodran Mustafi, was full of praise for Folarin Balogun after he struck in their Europa League win at Molde. The teenage striker scored with his first touches of the ball to open his account for the club, and earned rave reviews from his German team-mate. “He’s a very strong and intelligent player,” Mustafi told Arsenal.com. “He’s a good striker and he’s hungry. “I think at this age in strikers you can always see that hunger to score and they always want to do something in the box, and I think for him it was really nice. He came on in the last game as well and this time it was his first touch he scored with, so I’m very happy for him because I think this is something that is very important. “We all started as young boys and everyone knows the feeling of how difficult it ...

Manchester United have made an approach for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho has accepted damages from the World Anti-Doping Agency. The damages are the result of allegations he took performance enhancing drugs. He received a brief suspension in 2016 when he tested positive for a substance that helps burn fat called higenamine whilst playing for Liverpool. Sakho was eventually cleared by UEFA and has now been rewarded for damages caused. He said in a statement: “I am pleased with Wada’s acceptance that I did not breach the Uefa anti-doping regulations, did not cheat, had no intention of gaining any advantage and acted in good faith. “I am also pleased that Wada has apologised to me and agreed to pay a substantial sum in damages. “I consider myself vindicated and now look forward to continuing my career.” He added: “This is the ...
Thiago Silva is eager to point out that he is not at Chelsea to “visit tourist sites” and “go through the motions”, with the Brazilian defender determined “to win” with the Blues. The 36-year-old centre-half has made a habit of doing that throughout his career to date. Stints with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain delivered Serie A and Ligue 1 titles, while Confederations Cup and Copa America glory has been savoured with his country. Silva is now taking on a new challenge at Stamford Bridge after forming part of a serious squad refresh by Frank Lampard in west London. He is still finding his feet in new surroundings, with a costly error made on his Premier League bow against West Brom, but the intention is to become a commanding presence for the Blues. Silva told Chelsea’s official matchday...
