Scarlett Johansson has struck a deal with Disney to settle her blockbuster lawsuit over her compensation for Black Widow. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but both Johansson and Disney issued statements confirming the settlement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” stated Johansson. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.” Advertisement Related Video “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow,” added Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman. “We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe an...
The fate of the Avengers is in the hands of the law. In a court filing even more serious than the Sokovia Accords, Disney‘s Marvel unit is suing to prevent the MCU’s most famous superhero team from falling into copyright termination. The stakes couldn’t be higher for the company behind the blockbuster superhero franchise: if they lose the copyright on the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and co., the studio would be forced to share the Avengers’ identities with the heirs of their creators (i.e. the estates of Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Gene Colan, and others). According to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, the copyright for Spider-Man was the most recent to risk lapsing. Ditko’s estate filed a “notice of termination” on the character last month. It’s hard to imagine someone not falling in love with — or at least being charmed by — The Muppets in all of their tender, felted magic. But apparently, loving the puppet doesn’t always equate to loving the puppeteer. According to Frank Oz — the beloved puppeteer originally behind Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Animal, and iconic Sesame Street characters like Cookie Monster and Bert — Disney “doesn’t want” to work with him anymore. Oz hasn’t been involved with The Muppets or The Jim Henson Company since 2007. Fans long assumed that he retired in favor of more acting roles in films like Knives Out, but in a new interview with The Guardian, the actor revealed that he didn’t put the job on hold by choice. “I’d love to do The Muppets again, but Disney doesn’t want me, and Sesame Street...
No super serum, no blond hair, or blue eyes — but Sam Wilson has a movie. Anthony Mackie has officially signed on to star in Captain America 4. The Marvel Cinematic Universe favorite, who debuted as Sam “The Falcon” Wilson in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, debuted as the new Cap in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in March. That show ended with Wilson donning a new suit and officially taking over the Captain America mantle, a role Deadline reports he’ll now carry over to the big screen. It’s not yet clear if Mackie’s Disney+ co-star, Sebastian Stan, will return to reprise his role as Winter Soldier in the film. Marvel is, predictably, keeping details about the movie’s plot and cast under wraps for now. Of course, in typical MCU fash...
It’s a comparison Lizzo essentially signed off on, as the singer posted a fan-created version of “Rumors” on Twitter, set to that exact scene in the animated film. “Y’all really get me,” Lizzo wrote in a tweet, alongside a blushing emoji. Originally released in 1997, Hercules is getting a lot of renewed attention this week. In addition to (possibly) inspiring Lizzo’s new music video, the film got a shout-out from Aretha star, Jennifer Hudson, who revealed that she played Calliope, the head muse, on a Disney cruise ship back in the day. Asked if she would be interested in starring in a Hercules remake, Hudson replied with a simple, “I’m ready, just roll the camera” (A live-action remake of Hercules is reportedly in the wo...
According to producer John Davis, the ever-prolific Taika Waititi’s planned animated adaptation of Flash Gordon has grown into a full blown live-action film. “Taika is writing it. It was a movie that was a huge influence on him growing up. It is one of his favorite movies,” Davis told Collider in a new interview. “He initially said to me, ‘Let’s do it animated.’ Then we got into it and started developing it and he said, ‘No, let’s do it live-action.’ I said, ‘Even better.’” Back in 2019, Waititi was first hired by Disney to “crack” the long-gestating project, which was previously attached to directors like Matthew Vaughn and Julius Avery over the years. At the time, the Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker’s take was said to be more faithful to the original source material than the cam...
