Origins is a recurring new music series giving artists the opportunity to share exclusive insights into their latest release. Today, Sad Night Dynamite breaks down the music video for their new track, “What Does That Make Me?” It’s a treat to see Sad Night Dynamite in the sunshine. Usually, the stylish UK duo (comprised of Archie Blagden and Josh Greacen) paints its unique universe in dark shades of blue and purple, with spooky, gothic sonics and melodies that are both eerie and comforting. But for the video for their newest track, “What Does That Make Me?,” the duo decided to expand their universe to include brighter hues, with cerulean skies, bright green flora and fauna, and strong blasts of golds and yellows. “Even though at first this song is very different for us, we want Sad Night D...

Police Believe They Stopped Potential Mass Shooting at Bass Canyon EDM Festival

Police in Grant County, Washington believe they may have stopped a mass shooting Friday night (August 19th) during the Bass Canyon Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre. The county sheriff’s department later identified the suspect as 31-year-old Jonathan R. Moody of Ephrata, a town about 100 miles east of Spokane. Witnesses said they saw Moody inhale an unknown substance or gas from a balloon inside his car before loading two 9mm pistols. With one pistol concealed in the rear of his waistband and the other in an outside-the-waistband holster, Moody then began approaching concertgoers, asking what time the concert ended and where people would be exiting the venue. Venue security detained Moody; he was not trying to enter the festival and wasn’t wearing a wristband. After investigation, p...

Purity Ring’s Shrines Turns 10: How the Debut Laid a Masterful Foundation for the Future of Pop

Purity Ring‘s Megan James and Corin Roddick describe their debut album, Shrines, as one with very strict rules. “All the drums sound a certain way, all the vocals sound a certain way, all the synths… we created a strict palate of things that sort of worked together and tried to make as many different kind of musical ideas within that palette,” Roddick tells Consequence. Indeed, Shrines — which celebrates its tenth anniversary today, July 20th — is an album that represents Purity Ring operating with only their essentials, forging a path that would later define the sound of modern pop, if only for a portion of the last decade. When you look at Purity Ring’s output following Shrines (2015’s Another Eternity, 2020’s WOMB, and most recently, their EP Graves, which ...

Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. ...

Nils Frahm Announces New Album Music for Animals, Shares “Right Right Right”: Stream

Nils Frahm has a new album on the way. Music for Animals, the German composer/producer’s 14th solo album, is due out September 23rd via his own label LEITER. Today, he’s shared a preview of the record with the lead single “Right Right Right,” as well as a lengthy list of North American and European tour dates from 2022 all the way through 2024. Like much of Frahm’s work, Music for Animals is simplistic and meditative, while still feeling vast and full-bodied. At a whopping three hours, it could fall under the category of music Erik Satie famously dubbed “furniture music” — music that effortlessly falls into the background — although it’s still gorgeous enough to grab hold of your attention if you let it. Pre-orders for physical copies are ongoing. “My constant inspiration wa...
