A woman who accused Diplo of sexual assault has filed to dismiss her lawsuit. According to documents viewed by Consequence, the case will be dismissed with prejudice, which would forbid the plaintiff from pursuing another lawsuit on the same grounds. “In light of the evidence and after consultation with my attorneys, I have decided to withdraw my lawsuit,” the plaintiff, known as E.K., said in a statement. “No payment was offered or requested. I regret filing the lawsuit.” E.K.’s attorney confirmed that the lawsuit has been withdrawn. “As we said when we first learned of this lawsuit, there was absolutely irrefutable evidence that proved that the allegations it contained were false,” said Diplo’s attorney Bryan Freedman. “As soon as we shared that plethora of evidence with the plainti...
100 gecs are riding their stupid horse to a city near you. Two years after their debut album, 1000 gecs, took over the internet, the experimental duo of Dylan Brady and Laura Les is finally embarking on a long-awaited North American tour in 2021. The aptly-titled “10,000 gecs Tour” commences in Oakland this October, with its finale going down at New York City’s Terminal 5 in December. 100 gecs made fans out of seemingly everyone in 2019 with their crunchy hyperpop instrumentals and irreverent lyrics. They performed a handful of sold-out shows and announced a lengthy run of dates just before the world shut down in 2020, meaning this tour has been a very long time in the making. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. See their schedule below. Adv...
James Murphy, we love you, but you’re bringing us down. It’s been almost four years since LCD Soundsystem released new material, and it doesn’t seem like any more is in store for the time being. On a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Murphy confirmed that LCD Soundsystem had no plans to return to the stage or studio. Maron, an admittedly new LCD fan, interviewed Murphy about his early days cutting his teeth in New York’s DIY scene, what it means to make “original” music, and more. “We’re not rehearsing,” Murphy told Maron when asked about post-pandemic shows. “We’ll figure something out when the time is right. Right now, we’re on a full hiatus. Because of the nature of the band, when we’re not touring, we’re just, like, back to normal life completely…Everyone does other s...
“My mama told me when I was young/ We are all born superstars.” The familiar opening line of “Born This Way,” the title track from a certain seminal album, carries just a little weight for Lady Gaga, who was born Stefani Germanotta, and who by her own volition became a classically-trained, boundary-pushing social provocateur with a vital presence in the pop zeitgeist. It takes a certain caliber of artist to become mononymous: Prince. Madonna. Gaga. Lady Gaga and pop culture both looked quite different in 2011 during Born This Way’s initial release, and reviewing Gaga’s boldness from that time — both in her melodramatic public persona and innovative production choices — serves as a reminder for how much has changed in the decade that has passed since. Gay marriage had not yet been legalized...
OMD — a.k.a. Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark — have announced a headlining tour for spring 2022. The “Souvenir Tour” will celebrate the British electronic band’s greatest hits over their expansive four-decade history. OMD will be hitting major North American cities in support of Souvenir, their massive 40th anniversary box set that came out in 2019. All told, the tour spans 24 dates taking place over April and May of next year. To tide fans over until 2022, OMD are also playing a livestream concert on June 19th called “You Me & OMD”. All proceeds from the livestream will be split among members of the band’s touring crew, who have been out of work since February 2020 because of the pandemic. Related Video Tickets for the “You Me & OMD” livestream are available through the band’s w...
Brian Eno has unveiled a new Sonos Radio station called The Lighthouse. Available via Sonos Radio’s ad-free HD audio tier, the channel is broadcasting classic songs from the ambient legend’s career alongside previously unreleased music and more. Featuring hundreds of unheard tracks — the earliest of which is from 1990, notes Eno — The Lighthouse will serve as a “living collection” where Eno will continue to release selections from both past and new musical projects directly to fans across the world. “New pieces will be entering the mix and some of that will go back even further,” explained Eno in a press release. “You will be listening to a sequence of tracks which will be randomly generated, chosen by chance so there is the possibility of odd, I hope exciting collisions — things that...

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-06-03T22:32:09+00:00“>June 3, 2021 | 6:32pm ET After releasing their seminal debut album, Since I Left You, two decades ago, The Avalanches became a go-to reference among music nerds and sample aficionados. The Australian electronic duo made a meticulous record that influenced thousands, including music giants like MF DOOM. Now, the late rapper is getting a belated chance to collaborate with them in the form of a “Tonight May Have to Last Me All My Life” remix. For his spin on the staple single, MF DOOM turned up the vinyl static and let his iconic freestyle flow do its thing, rapping atop the classic with the mellow flair and witty wordplay he was known for. It’s pretty special to ...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-06-02T17:30:12+00:00“>June 2, 2021 | 1:30pm ET UK electronic duo Jungle have shared the new single “Talk About It”. This is just the latest preview of their upcoming album Loving in Stereo, which drops August 13th. For the follow-up to 2018’s For Ever, Jungle’s Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson joined forces with frequent collaborator Inflo, best known for working with Michael Kiwanuka and Little Simz. Together, they set out to focus on simple joys while avoiding “overthinking,” according to a statement. McFarland used “Talk About It” as an example, explaining, “‘Talk About It’ is the second single from our 3rd LP Loving In Stereo and it definitely gi...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-19T17:09:29+00:00“>May 19, 2021 | 1:09pm ET Back in late 2018, Rosalía tantalized fans with a photo of her in the studio with Oneohtrix Point Never. Today, the duo have finally shared the product of their collaboration, “Nothing’s Special”, a new reworking of OPN’s 2020 track of the same name. Singing in Spanish, Rosalía puts her own spin on the lyrics after staying true to the first several lines of Oneohtrix Point Never’s original. Over OPN’s familiar atmospheric synths, she describes the pain of losing her best friend. “Estoy triste, perdí a mi mejor amigo/ Y la vida que vivimos ya no está,” she painfully sings. “Dicho eso aún me impresiona que no sea tan especial/ Si miras co...
Who is Gaspard Augé? Fans know him as the more mysterious member of French electronic duo Justice (which, for a group that only appears with a new album every five years and is better known for smoking cigarettes than actually speaking, is saying a lot). He’s the one with the big hair and the mustache, always peering through yellowed sunglasses but never with a smile. He’s mostly quiet in interviews and likes to wear a lot of vintage rock t-shirts, but what is going on in his mind? Apparently, it’s a Mongolian rider storming through the Turkish mountains, playing violin by horseback. That’s the scene of his one-minute visual released in celebration of his latest single “Hey!,” the second from his forthcoming debut solo LP Escapades. As the title suggests, the 12-track collection is an adve...

In the late seventies, early prototypes included the Apple II, Commodore PET and the TRS-80. Programmed with obtuse software, their joys and intrigues remained esoteric, elusive. Beyond the hardware, the Internet was an unknown realm; email and social media were not yet invented, and video chats were simply science fiction. Despite all of these limitations, the rich geography of a Computer World was envisioned by German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Released on May 10th in 1981, Kraftwerk’s eighth studio album was informed by ...
