Ted Gardner, rock manager and co-founder of Chicago music festival Lollapalooza, has died, Billboard reports. While no cause of death was given, it’s reported that Gardner died on December 28 of last year. He was 74 years old. Long before Lollapalooza’s opening day in the summer of 1991, Gardner worked as a tour manager, first with bands in his native Australia. He toured with local outfit Men at Work in the early 1980s and worked with a number of rock groups from the decade—Crowded House, Echo and the Bunnymen, and New Order among them. By the late ’80s, Gardner was managing Jane’s Addiction full-time. The 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony, originally scheduled for January 31, has been postponed, the Recording Academy and CBS announced today. The event has been rescheduled due to “the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant” of the coronavirus, the Recording Academy and CBS said in a joint statement. Denzel Curry has announced his next album, titled Melt My Eyez See Your Future. The rapper broke the news with a Western-style trailer for the LP, which finds Curry walking through a vast desert. The clip ends with a list of credits, teasing contributions from T-Pain, Thundercat, Rico Nasty, 6lack, J.I.D, slowthai, Robert Glasper, producer and prior Curry collaborator Kenny Beats, and others. Turnstile have shared their NPR “Tiny Desk (Home) Concert” performance. Filmed by Hate5six near an art installation by GIVE’s John Scharbach featuring hundreds of stuffed animals, it reportedly marks the first time a hardcore band has played the famous NPR series. Turnstile squeezed in seven songs from their album Glow On for the set: “Endless, “Underwater Boi,” “Blackout,” “Don’t Play,” a stripped-down version of “Mystery,” “T.L.C. Ted Gardner, who co-founded Chicago’s iconic Lollapalooza festival alongside Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, has died at the age of 74. He passed away on December 28th, 2021 after battling an unspecified illness, Pollstar reports. Prior to launching Lollapalooza, Gardner was the full-time manager of Jane’s Addiction starting in 1989. He and Farrell in 1991 went on to host the inaugural festival, which was reportedly set up at the time as a farewell tour for the band. In addition to co-founding Lollapalooza, Gardner was a prolific rock manager who worked with Queens of the Stone Age and The Verve, among others.
