Mdou Moctar Announces East Coast Tour Dates

Mdou Moctar has announced a string of headlining East Coast tour dates in support of his 2021 LP Afrique Victime, kicking off in Februrary in Providence, Rhode Island. The new dates bookend his previously announced dates opening for Parquet Courts in February and March; Moctar and his band also hit the United Kingdom and Europe in April. David Byrne and Yo La Tengo have shared their cover of Yoko Ono’s “Who Has Seen the Wind.” It’s the first single from Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono, a tribute album curated by Death Cab for Cutie’s Benjamin Gibbard. The compilation features contributions from Deerhoof, the Flaming Lips, Sharon Van Etten, Death Cab for Cutie, U.S. Girls, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, Stephin Merritt (of Magnetic Fields), and more. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have officially released the debut single from their new band the Smile, which features Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner on drums. “You Will Never Work in Television Again” was produced by Nigel Godrich. Listen to the new single below. The Smile will perform three consecutive live shows at Magazine London on January 29 (at 3 p.m. Eastern and 8 p.m. Eastern) and January 30 (at 6 a.m. Eastern). Ted Gardner, Artist Manager and Lollapalooza Co-Founder, Dies at 74

Ted Gardner, a longtime artist manager who co-founded the Lollapalooza festival with Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, died Dec. 28. He was 74. “I’m sad to report Ted Gardner, Our manager passed away today surrounded by his loving family,” tweeted Anton Newcombe, whose band, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, has been managed by Gardner since 2004. “We will miss a great manager, mentor & friend. To accompany the release of his new album Dawn FM, The Weeknd has announced an exclusive livestream experience with Amazon Music. The Canadian crooner is set to drop his newest mixtape on January 7, a follow-up to his March 2020 album, After Hours. The artist took to Instagram to announce his partnership with Amazon Music to give fans the maximum experience to enjoy the album. Kay Flock Arrested on First-Degree Murder Charge, Lawyer Investigating Allegations

Bronx rapper Kay Flock was arrested on December 23 on a charge of first-degree murder, his attorney Scott E. Leemon confirmed to Pitchfork. According to the Daily News, Kay Flock—an 18-year-old born Kevin Perez—is suspected of shooting and killing a 24-year-old man in Manhattan on December 16. In addition to the murder charge, Kay Flock is facing two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, according to online records viewed by Pitchfork.
