The Clean’s Hamish Kilgour Dies at 65

In 1988, the Clean reunited to perform in London, resulting in the In-A-Live EP, which presents five of their classic songs in 16-track sound; the same year, the Clean’s music officially hit the United States as a collection titled Compilation, released via future Matador label founder Gerard Cosloy’s Homestead Records. Bookended by two world tours, the second phase of the Clean also spawned their first proper album, 1990’s Vehicle (issued via Flying Nun in partnership with UK indie stalwart Rough Trade), before things fizzled out once again. Later in the decade, the Clean got back together for a fresh pair of albums—1995’s Modern Rock and 1996’s Unknown Country—before yet another hiatus. By the time the trio next reconvened, in 2000, the Clean’s influence on a new, largely American genera...

Looking for a Music Lover’s Gift Under $30? Save Their Ears With the Vibes High-Fidelity Earplugs

This year, give your loved one’s the gift of hearing protection. Sadly, most people are unaware of the irreversible damage caused by listening and being exposed to live music. Everyone knows that concerts are loud, yet very few seem to fully grasp the dangers of the decibels.  Have you ever experienced that post-show ear-ringing? Not only is it incredibly annoying, but also an early sign of hearing damage. The average concert pumps at a level of roughly 98-110dB, which can cause hearing damage within 10 minutes of exposure. A simple and effective solution for music lovers is to—you guessed it—wear hearing protection. And it’s important to select the right type of earplugs, since many solutions are designed to block out all sounds, thus muffling the music. This is why Vibes...

Damon Sharpe’s “Naughty Girl” Music Video Is a Celebration of Shuffling and Rave Culture

Just last month, Damon Sharpe released his tech house cover of Beyoncé’s 2004 hit, “Naughty Girl.” The track is wildly infectious with its pumping bassline, quirky synths and sultry vocals from Tima Dee. Now, Sharpe has dropped the official “Naughty Girl” music video, a celebration of shuffling. Featuring popular dancers and shape-cutters CiCi, Janeeva Pettway and Adrian Campos, among others, the video is a vibrant ode to rave fashion and culture.  Directed by Éli Sokhn, the video takes place in a math classroom with Sharpe as the teacher. Bored by his math lessons, the students turn off the lights and transform the room into a club, erupting into a dancing frenzy as the chalkboard changes from “MATH101” to “PARTY101.” Swapping sc...

Man Who Shot Lady Gaga’s Dog Walker Sentenced to 21 Years in Prison

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The man who shot Lady Gaga’s dog walker and stole her French bulldogs last year took a plea deal and was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Monday (Dec. 5), officials said. The Lady Gaga connection was a coincidence, authorities have said. The motive was the value of the French bulldogs, a breed that can run into the thousands of dollars, and detectives do not believe the thieves knew the dogs belonged to the musician. James Howard Jackson, one of three men and two accomplices who participated in the violent robbery, pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Jackson and others drove around Hollywood, the city of West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley on Feb. 24, 2021 “looking for French bulldo...
