Masego Celebrates Black Community in New “Say You Want Me” Music Video

Masego is giving listeners a feel for his forthcoming album with “Say You Want Me,” the first cut to be released from the project. Arriving with a music video directed by Victor Alex Barco, the song layers the Jamaican-American singer’s sultry vocals over a bouncy dance beat. On the track, Masego leads with a player attitude, singing about leading women while still vying for their attention. Background vocals are provided by Ambré, Ari PenSmith, Mannywellz and Destin Conrad. The accompanying visual was shot in Los Angeles and celebrates the vibrance and kinship of the city’s Black community. “Masego is the name I want to hear you say when you mention life, music, black romance and dance,” Masego said of the track. As he begins the process of rolling out his new LP, for which a title has ye...

Joji Introduces Lo-Fi Sounds to His Crooning Ballads on New Album ‘Smithereens’

Joji has released his new album, Smithereens, out today via 88rising. Following 2020’s Nectar, the new LP hears the singer continue to evolve his distinctive style of melancholic ballads. On tracks like “Die For You,” the singer pensively reflects on lost love, a recurring theme throughout his discography. Crooning over simple piano chords punctuated by the cymbal, Joji reveals that although she’s moved on to be happy without him in her life, he’s still willing to die for her. The album is also home to his hit single “Glimpse of Us.” Other standouts include the somber “Before The Day Is Over” and the vibey “NIGHT RIDER,” the latter of which sees Joji experiment more with production. Kaskade is swinging to the dark side, and 22-year-old Justus is pushing the pendulum.
