Takeoff was the quiet catalyst of the Migos, the glue between Quavo’s flamboyance and Offset’s bluntness. Thoughtful and precise, he was a rapper’s rapper — the member of the group who had the most intricate take on the “triplet” flow that they popularized, rhyming three syllables over one beat while stuffing between nine and 12 syllables in a single line. He could stack, chop and remix the flow he popularized at ease too, as indicated by his vicious LA Leakers freestyle ahead of the release of Culture III in 2021. Having a ghostwriter was a foreign concept to the rapper born Kirsnick Khari Ball, as he’s listed as a lyricist on nearly all of Migos’ tracks — meaning he wrote his own bars. In tribute to Takeoff’s skill, influence and impact, we’ve rounded up 10 of his most hard-hitting verse...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty Faithful users of Twitter slammed Elon Musk for his terrible idea to monetize the social media network’s account verification system. The “Chief Twit” has unveiled his revamped Twitter Blue subscription service. Initially, Elon Musk seriously thought it was a good idea to charge Twitter users $20 to get a blue check and force those who already have the blue check next to pay that price to keep theirs. After some intense backlash, Musk, aka Phony Stark, revealed that Twitter would not charge users $20 but would up the Twitter Blue subscription price from $4.99 a month to $8. In a tweet announcing the price adjustment and trying to justify the ridiculous price hike, he wrote, “We need to pay the bills somehow. Twitter cannot rely entirely o...

To most people, ecstasy, LSD and vodka Red Bulls are practically synonymous with the “EDM” acronym. But over the last few years, a cohort of sober concert-goers have slowly brought their lifestyle to the mainstream, like the organizers of a “detox” music festival in Colorado and Electric Forest’s Camp Traction Sober Group Camp, which caters to those who want to get high off the music alone. Chelsie Cahoon has partied hard—and sober—since her late teens. Now she owns a clothing brand called Music Is The Drug and hopes to continue bringing awareness and acceptance to all corners of dance music culture, one t-shirt...
