N-Word Use Rises On Twitter Since Phony Starks AKA Elon Musk Took Over

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: CONSTANZA HEVIA / Getty Hate speech and racist language aren’t new on Twitter but an uptick in the use of the N-Word slur was noticed in the days after Elon Musk took over ownership of the social media network. According to reports, the use of the slur is part of a trolling campaign meant to test the limits of free speech on the platform. The Twitter takeover by Musk was celebrated by many on the extreme right who feel that censorship on Twitter has overreached as it relates to the right to freedom of speech. The N-Word, and by N-Word we mean the hard “r” version, has often been used on the service often by trolls too fearful and witless to do so under real user profiles. Yoel Roth, Head of Safety & Integrity at Twitter, posted a thread over the weeke...

Ex-WMG Innovation Chief Scott Cohen Named CEO of Music Investing Platform

Former Warner Music Group executive and the Orchard co-founder Scott Cohen said on Tuesday (Nov. 1) he is taking a new job as chief executive officer of a fintech platform aimed at selling fractional shares in song catalogs. Cohen, who stepped down from his role as chief innovation officer at WMG in September, said the aim of the new venture is to “fractionalize ownership of music royalties.” Fractional shares are a familiar concept in finance, and brokerages like Robinhood and Fidelity Investments sell them as a way to buy a slice of a share for less than the price of the whole stock. The market for buying and investing in music publishing rights has traditionally been open to only the world’s largest music companies and, more recently, money managers. Introducing fractional shares could ...

RayRay and JVNA Team Up for Empowering Melodic Bass Track, “Butterfly”

Self-empowerment is the name on the game on RayRay‘s new single, “Butterfly,” a melodic bass ballad written with fellow Taiwanese producer JVNA. Featuring a slow-burning bassline and sultry, hypnotic vocals, the collab is an ode to their experiences in the music industry as women, as well as the lessons they’ve taught themselves along the way.  Creepy and crawling, otherworldly and unyielding, “Butterfly” builds like lightning on the horizon with minimalistic percussion and sensuous lyricism: “Watch me as I go and take a leap / Try to make the dreams my reality.” Meanwhile, deep bass grows beneath the surface, waiting to overtake you with a thunderous drop. The track, RayRay says, is one of her favorite songs from her forthcomi...

Nostalgix Drops Gritty Hip-House Track, “Options”

Nostalgix has dropped the latest record from her forthcoming Supah Fly EP, a hip-house collab with Lano Bandz. Out now on Thrive Music, “Options” is a gritty fusion of hip-hop and house music. The track, which features energetic bars courtesy of Bandz, finds Nostalgix producing a rowdy bass house beat. A sinister electric guitar riff kicks things off before the arrangement erupts into a frenzy of menacing bass and metallic synths. “The writing of ‘Options’ was such a fun process,” explains Nostalgix. “It was the first record I made when I moved to Los Angeles. I met Lano Bandz through my friend Wraith, and we immediately had a vibe together. I got Lano to hop in the vocal booth and start freestyling over a fun instrumental I had.”  Fans c...

Skrillex Drops Numerous IDs In His Return to the Festival Stage at Second Sky

However, he eventually had to drop off of both lineups as he was working on music for his upcoming albums. Over the weekend, Skrillex didn’t hesitate to preview some of the fruits of his labor from those stu...
