“My life has changed a lot,” notes a joyful Joyce Wrice. Since she landed a spot on Hypebeast’s New Gen Spring 2021 list, the San Diego-bred, Los Angeles-based R&B sensation has made great strides thanks to the release of her debut album Overgrown last year. From opening for Lucky Daye’s Candytrip tour to being the voice behind The Proud Family reboot jingle, modeling for the first time at New York Fashion Week, performing at international shows and festivals, and most recently dropping her Motive EP, Wrice has firmly set herself on the path to success. Though modern pundits like to bemoan the purported “demise” of R&B, Wrice pays them no heed by breathing new life into the genre. Her old school sounds hark back to Aaliyah, Brandy, Mariah Carey, and Missy Elliott, while her contemp...
It’s never too young to find a hobby. In Mesophonic’s case, he found dubstep. At 10 years of age, the diminutive DJ and electronic music producer is poised to make a name for himself in the Denver area, a hub of promising bass music talent. Based in Fort Collins, Mesophonic started performing at the ripe age of seven, even though he could barely see over the DJ equipment. Inspired by experimental bass music, he spins a wonky blend of dubstep and riddim at his shows. Most recently, he performed at the Aggie Theater and Black Box, his team tells us. In the wake of antisemitic remarks made by Kanye West, The Chainsmokers are removing “Kanye,” a song released in 2014 that celebrates the disgraced rapper, from streaming services. On October 9th, West tweeted that he would go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” triggering swift excoriation from around the world before doubling down in a since-deleted interview on the Drink Champs podcast. The American Jewish Community called the tweet a “vicious antisemitic comment” designed to incite “the hatred of Jews.” The Chainsmokers took to social media this week to condemn West and announce their plans to withdraw “Kanye” from Spotify, Apple Music and other digital service providers. The track contains the lyric, “I want to be...

In a press statement, Tems said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I mis...
