Record-Breaking Amsterdam Dance Event Draws In 450,000 Attendees

The dust has just begun to settle on Amsterdam Dance Event 2022, and its numbers confirm a record-breaking year.  The five-day assembly of conferences, performances, panels and more brought out over 450,000 attendees, who hailed from 146 different countries. 2022 marked a full return for the event following a series of pandemic-related cancellations. HHW Gaming: Is The Xbox Series S Holding Back Next-Gen Games? Some Devs Think So

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty When Microsoft first announced the Xbox Series S, the idea of a mid-tier, affordable, next-gen console sounded good to gamers, but could it also be slowing down the development of next-gen games? Emmett Till Statue Unveiled Mississippi, Not Far From A Confederate Monument

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Scott Olson / Getty The majority Black city of Greenwood, Mississippi, unveiled a monument dedicated to the 14-year-old Black boy whose tragic story helped galvanize the civil rights movement. According to The Grio, the nine-foot statue of Emmett Till was unveiled Friday, not far from where he was brutally killed by two white monsters after another white monster accused him of flirting with her. The only downside is that the monument commemorating the young victim of heinous white violence, stands just miles away from a giant ode to Black people in bondage—or what white conservatives call “heritage.” From the Grio: The 9-foot (2.7-meter) tall bronze statue in Greenwood is a jaunty depiction of the living Till in slacks, a dress shirt and a tie with one ha...

Russian Appeals Court Upholds Brittney Griner’s 9-Year Prison Sentence

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV / Getty American WNBA star Brittney Griner remains in a Russian prison after a decision today by a Russian appeals court to uphold her nine-year sentence on drug smuggling charges. The ruling now leaves Brittney Griner’s best chance for release in the hands of the United States government. According to The New York Times, the Biden Administration and representatives of Russian President Vladimir V. Putin has been engaged in secretive negotiations to possibly include Griner in an exchange of prisoners. The U.S. government offered a swap in June, but Russian officials refused to discuss it until all legal recourse was met.  The article notes that the ruling by a three-judge panel means that Griner will soon be transported to a R...
