Little Simz has won the 2022 Mercury Prize for her album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. After performing a song from the winning album, she was awarded a trophy and a check for £25,000 at a ceremony held at Eventim Apollo in London. Little Simz was previously nominated in 2019 for her third album Grey Area. In a statement, the Mercury Prize judging panel said: “In a year that has, to put it mildly, presented rather a lot of challenges, British and Irish music has thrived more than ever. That made it extremely hard for the judges to choose an overall winner from the 12 ‘Albums of the Year’ on the 2022 Mercury Prize with FREE NOW shortlist, simply because all of them had so much to offer. When it came down to it, the judges were so impressed by Sometimes I Might Be Introvert...

In a sea of out-of-left-field hit songs this year (Kate Bush, anyone?), David Guetta and Bebe Rexha‘s “I’m Good (Blue)” stands out as one of the most unpredictable. Guetta and Rexha’s throwback dance-floor filler interpolates Eiffel 65’s 1999 novelty hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” (itself an unexpected success story), and as Rexha tells Katie & Keith on the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast (listen to the new episode below), the collab was actually made years ago and then unearthed by savvy fans. “[David] had played it at a festival after we had cut it, and somebody took a YouTube video of it and posted it,” Rexha recalls. “Then somebody found that and made a remix and posted it to TikTok. Then this big gamer posted it from TikTok, and then it blew up from her page. “It’s crazy, because you just neve...

Ye‘s comments on the podcast Drink Champs have just landed him a lawsuit from the family of George Floyd. Filed on behalf of George Floyd’s daughter by her mother, the lawsuit is for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.” The defamation comes from Ye’s claim that George Floyd’s untimely death was due to the drug fentanyl rather than at the hands of the Minneapolis police. N.O.R.E. of Drink Champs could be seen trying to push back on Ye’s statements on the podcast but ultimately fans of the show were upset for his decision in giving him a platform — the video has since been taken down. N.O.R.E. has also given a full apology for the situation, “We apologize to the family of Mr. Floyd and anyone else hurt by this episode.” George Floyd’s estate is se...
