On Friday (October 14), more than a dozen artists sued the legendary Chicago house label Trax Records, the estate of its co-founder Larry Sherman, and its current owners Screamin’ Rachael Cain and Sandyee Barns, reports Rolling Stone. Those suing—a list that includes Trax Records co-founder Vince Lawrence, Marshall Jefferson, Adonis, and Maurice Joshua—allege the label owes them unpaid royalties and, in some cases, failed to pay certain artists anything at all. A copy of the lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone describes Trax’s early years as a “shell game” that involved forged signatures, bounced checks, and shoddy accounting. According to the lawsuit, “Plaintiffs may elect to recover statutory damages and are entitled to the maximum statutory damages available for willful infringement...
Kanye West has reached an agreement in principle to buy the social media platform Parler, The New York Times reports, citing a news release from Parler’s parent company, Parlement Technologies. The platform, which arose in the wake of Trumpism, brands itself as a free-speech haven, railing against censorship on mainstream social media. West’s Twitter and Instagram accounts were recently restricted amid a spate of antisemitic posts and public statements. In the news release, West said, “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves.” He and Parler expect to finalize the agreement in principle later this year. This past weekend, West appeared on the YouTube series Drink Champs and repeated more ant...
This show in London is hands down one of our best of the year. We presented Vulture Prince in all its bold, sexy and sad glory. The audience was large in number, wild with excitement and exclaim, diverse as could be, appropriately hushed and moved, rowdy and laughing… all the things we love Vulture Prince to be. Performing with Anoushka is an incredible honor, and at times I was close to tears to be witnessing it happen at all! A night for the books for sure.
Danny Elfman is reprising his live-to-film performances of The Nightmare Before Christmas and he’s tapped Phoebe Bridgers to sing the part of Sally. The concerts will take place on December 9 and 10 at London’s OVO Arena Wembley. Elfman will star as Jack Skellington and Ken Page will sing as Oogie Boogie, as both do in the original 1993 movie. John Mauceri will conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra for the occasion and will be joined by Greg Proops, Randy Crenshaw, Fletcher Sheridan, and violinist Sandy Cameron. Watch a teaser video for the shows below. Last year, Elfman performed a similar live-to-film version of The Nightmare Before Christmas with Billie Eilish singing as Sally, which was livestreamed. Back in August, Elfman released the new LP Bigger. Messier., a collection of remixes based...

N.O.R.E. spoke out Monday (Oct. 17) about the wave of backlash he’s faced over having Kanye West as a guest on his Revolt TV show Drink Champs. Speaking to Hot 97’s Pete Rosenberg and Laura Stylez, the rapper explained, “Well the logic was the same way you guys are giving me the platform. I think you guys have love for me, you guys have respect for me, and you guys think that I should have a say. I have a relationship with Ye. When he was going through a lot of the things he was going through, he would call me and he would actually listen to me and take my advice. So I felt I could control the situation. I felt that I could control the interview, and learned early on that I didn’t.” N.O.R.E. went on to add that “as a Black man, I feel like I failed,” but justified his thought process that ...
We’re just days away from Taylor Swift‘s Midnights album release, and the star has been dropping hints about her 10th studio LP in very Taylor-ish ways. At the stroke of midnight (of course) in her boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s home of London, England, a line of lyrics appeared on a billboard in the city. “I polish up real nice,” the lyric reads. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news “London, you polish up real nice,” the Taylor Nation Twitter account retweeted a fan photo of the lyrics. “#CountdownToMidnighTS Time to pre-save #TSmidnighTS on @Spotify and polish up on our track titles! http://taylor.lnk.to/taylorswiftmidnightspresave… In which song does this lyric belong?” The lyric reveal is in partnership with Spotify. After N.O.R.E.’s apology post-Drink Champs interview with Kanye West, the video itself has been removed from YouTube and Revolt. Following the interview between N.O.R.E. and Ye, backlash ensued, with viewers pointing out the controversial rapper’s comments regarding the murder of George Floyd, and Jewish people “[owning] the Black voice” through Black people wearing a Ralph Lauren shirt, “being signed to a record label, or having a Jewish manager, or being signed to a Jewish basketball team, or doing a movie on a Jewish platform like Disney.” He went on to add, “I respect what the Jewish people have done, and how they brought their people together.” The conversation lasted nearly 45-minutes and came on the heels of Ye’s attendance at Candace Owens’ premiere of her film, The Greatest L...
Longtime fans of Adventure Club will find solace in their new song, a vintage remix that speaks to their storied past. The prolific duo, whose ageless dubstep remixes helped propel them to electronic music stardom in the early 2010s, recently took on Łaszewo’s “Fuck Your Sunshine.” And in doing so, they turned back the clock to those days, when they ushered in a melodic dubstep era that remains a lynchpin of the EDM space to this day. There’s no question that the tandem, who dropped their scintillating sophomore album earlier in 2022, are at their best when it comes to vocal-driven dance music. Their new remix functions as a nostalgia machine, featuring the rapturous vocal chops and euphoric bass of a signature Adventure Club anthem of yesteryear. Tak...
