Lady of the House Announces Demo Competition Winners, Releases Inaugural EP

Four women have just become the inaugural class of Lady of the House artists after the release of the label’s collaborative EP, Competition Winners. Handpicked from hundreds of demo submissions earlier this year, the winners will also receive mentorship from advisors at CAA, Beatport, The Media Nanny and more as well as a performance slot at LabelWorx’s Amsterdam Dance Week event on October 19th.  Lady of the House is a U.K. organization that advocates for gender equity in dance music. Trax Records Co-Founder, More Than a Dozen Artists Sue Label Over Unpaid Royalties

On Friday (October 14), more than a dozen artists sued the legendary Chicago house label Trax Records, the estate of its co-founder Larry Sherman, and its current owners Screamin’ Rachael Cain and Sandyee Barns, reports Rolling Stone. Those suing—a list that includes Trax Records co-founder Vince Lawrence, Marshall Jefferson, Adonis, and Maurice Joshua—allege the label owes them unpaid royalties and, in some cases, failed to pay certain artists anything at all.  A copy of the lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone describes Trax’s early years as a “shell game” that involved forged signatures, bounced checks, and shoddy accounting. Tsu Surf Facing Federal Racketeering Charges

Battle rapper Tsu Surf is facing federal drug trafficking charges and other related counts following his arrest this week at a home in northern New Jersey. The rapper, whose real name is Rahjon Cox, made his initial court appearance Friday (Oct. 14) but did not enter a plea. WNYW-TV in New York reported that Cox told the judge he had hired an attorney to represent him but the lawyer could not make the hearing, so the judge allowed another lawyer to fill in on Friday.
