Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are choosing to sit out this year’s Grammy Awards. In a statement to Billboard on Thursday (Oct. 13), Mars confirmed that the duo will not submit the acclaimed debut by their Silk Sonic duo, An Evening With Silk Sonic, for Grammy consideration. “Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to first single ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else t just icing on the cake,” Mars said of the retro soul track that won four Grammy awards in April, including song of the year, record of the year, best R&B song and best R&B performance; the An Evening album was released in Nov. 2021, which would have made it eligible for nominations at the 2023 ceremony. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platfor...
Kerri Chandler is an innovator. The legendary DJ and producer, who is looking at 30 years of house music in his rearview, is an out-of-the-box thinker who doesn’t see limitations, just new frontiers. Space and Places was not created in Chandler’s elaborate home studio in New Jersey — which is on par with any commercial studio, and leaves quite a few of those marquee locations in its dust. Instead, over the course of two years, Chandler traveled around the globe, recording the songs for Space and Places at clubs in various cities. It’s a new era for Quavo and Takeoff. With the Migos chapter at least temporarily closed, Unc & Phew went forward by returning to their grimy roots, in order to recapture the essence of what made them two-thirds of the ATL trio that shifted the sound of hip-hop in the mid-2010s. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news “A lot of artists might get caught up in that space, but you got to go back to what you started from and what you know,” Takeoff says over Zoom. “It’s okay to try different things, but you just got to bring it back to what got you to where you at now.” Quavo and Takeoff pressed reset, headed to the bat cave, and started with a diverse mood board featuring their favorite duos, like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and didn’t come back u...
Burna Boy lands his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as “Last Last” captures first place on the chart dated Oct. 15. The single climbs from the runner-up spot after a 9% increase in weekly plays made it the most-played song on U.S. monitored R&B/hip-hop stations in the week ending Oct. 9, according to Luminate. “Last Last” gives Burna Boy his first Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart-topper with his second career entry. He previously reached a No. 26 best with “Ye” in 2019. With its ascent, “Last” also halts the record-breaking stay of Future’s “Wait for U,” featuring Drake and Tems, which logged an unprecedented 14th week at No. 1 on the chart last week. Plus, the new champ brings a former R&B hit to the summit via a sample. “Last” prominent...
Bruno Mars on Thursday announced that Silk Sonic — the R&B duo comprised of himself and Anderson .Paak — will not submit their album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, for 2023 Grammy Award consideration, according to Rolling Stone. “We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars told the outlet. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.” At last year’s ceremony, Silk Sonic took home four Grammys for the album’s lead track, “Leave the Door Open,” which was released in April of last year. However, the album did not arrive until November of 2021, meaning it would have been eligible for th...
Lil Baby’s third studio album It’s Only Me is out tomorrow, October 14. Ahead of the release, the Atlanta rapper wanted to remind listeners that he can drop hard-hitting verses on the fly. The rapper headed to Hot 97 to take on Funkmaster Flex’s freestyle challenge for the third time. While he kept it short at just about 2-minutes, he delivered bars at a spit-fire pace. It’s Only Me follows Lil Baby’s 2020 effort, My Turn, which debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200 and became the rapper’s first No. 1 album and one of the highest-charting projects of the year. The rapper has been teasing the 23-track It’s Only Me over the past few months. In early September, he shared the LP’s lead single “Detox” alongside an official music video. He’s also given fans a look at the cover art, rendering him a...
Montell Fish is following up the recent release of his album JAMIE with a new EP. The Brooklyn-based singer will be putting out the 7-track project, entitled Her Love Still Haunts Me Like A Ghost, at the tail end of this month. The EP will hear Fish build on his distinctly raw DIY sound, incorporating synthesizers and layered instrumentation, as well as dance-style tempos. The artist’s past projects have led with his vulnerable and haunting lyricism, and based on the EP title alone and his new song “Hotel,” listeners can expect him to continue to deliver poetic bars. Fish described the EP as a “transitional project,” following July’s 10-song LP JAMIE. “It’s essentially a sequel to JAMIE and a prequel to my next albums, CHARLOTTE and MARSHALL,” he said. “All three albums are loosely tied to...
