Kendrick Lamar has revealed that at one point in time, he had doubts about whether he should release his DAMN. followup, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. In his recent W Magazine cover story, the artist explained that the vulnerability and insecurities he created the album with were actually what almost caused him to shelve the record — if not for his kids and their future kids. “When I got to completion and I said, ‘I may or may not put this out; I’m not going to put this out; it’s way too much,’ I thought about my children,” K-Dot said. “I thought about when they turn 21, or they’re older in life, and when I got grandchildren, or if I’m long gone—this can be a prerequisite of how to cope. Over the weekend at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, electronic dance music fans shared a true singalong moment. October 5th of this year marked the milestone 10th anniversary of Zedd‘s debut album, Clarity, a record which spawned several global electronic hits and helped catapult Zedd to international acclaim. For one night only he honored the occasion with a rare, front-to-back symphonic performance, accompanied onstage by a 50-piece orchestra. Of course the marquee event of the evening was the performance of the album’s titular track. “Clarity” presently has amassed over 450 million streams on Spotify alone, and so it’s no surprise the audience opted to join in—and they sung along to every word. Following the launch of CamelPhat‘s new record label, When Stars Align, you too can drink all the “Cola” the duo have to offer. The label’s inaugural release, “Magic Me” by ELDON, is a dark and dreamy melodic house track, rumbling with tension-building bass and a stirring melody. “Groove into the morning light,” the vocalist rasps over swelling synths and gentle percussion notes. It’s all arranged in a style not unlike the signature sound of German trio Keinemusik, who gained acclaim after members &ME and Rampa provided a production assist on Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind album. “Magic Me” comes paired with a trancey remix by CamelPhat themselves, who transformed it into a club-ready record...

There’s a lot that could be said about the scale of music streaming today and how it has empowered the independent creator to directly reach consumers. But as Music Business Worldwide points out, Grainge argued that this milestone arguably makes the label a more important part of th...
