Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Isn’t Happening in 2022, Set to Return Next Year

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival will not return to Los Angeles in 2022, his manager Chris Clancy told Billboard. Plans are in place for the festival to return in 2023. “It’s really not that deep,” Clancy said. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.” The last Camp Flog Gnaw was held in 2019. The lineup included Solange, FKA twigs, Juice Wrld, Brockhampton, and more. A surprise headliner was teased in advance without a name revealed, and a rumor began to circulate that Frank Ocean would perform. Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival Will Not Return for 2022

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles is skipping 2022, his manager Chris Clancy tells Billboard, and is planning to bring the festival back next year. “It’s really not that deep,” says Clancy of the Goldenvoice-produced event. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.” This has been an unusual year for festivals, as large-scale events largely returned from the pandemic. The festival space was more crowded and oversaturated in 2022 than many expected as promoters created new events to take advantage of an uptick in ticket buying and fan demand at the beginning of the year for events like Coachella and Outside L...

Shirt Reflects on the State of Art in New Single “Death To Wall Art”

Artist and musician Shirt is back with his newest single “Death To Wall Art.” Produced by Jack Splash, known for his work with Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Alicia Keys, the cut arrives just shortly after Shirt’s project with the New York Public Library and artist residency in a castle in Italy. “It’s nice to get a HYPEBEAST premiere but I have real issues with hype culture in general we can talk about that when you guys are ready,” he said. “‘Death To Wall Art’ relates to what Duchamp has called ‘retinal art’ – which is art that is purely visual. I have a rule for myself over the last few years of studying art that goes: No aesthetic purely for aesthetic sake — the people deserve better.” I am interested in ideas, not merely in visual products, shit that just sounds or l...

Whethan Brings Back Signature Dance-Pop Sound On First Independent Release In 6 Years, “Fall Out Girl”

You heard it here first: Whethan is the official shapeshifter—or soundshifter, rather—of dance music. And he’s now breaking away in more ways than one. Whethan’s latest single, “Fall Out Girl” (with Zai1k), is his first independent release in six years following a two-album stint with Atlantic Records.  “Fall Out Girl” is an uplifting callback to the sounds of this dance music prodigy’s past, from the playful sonics and youthful enthusiasm of his debut album, Fantasy, to the moodier, too-cool-for-school edge of its hip hop follow-up, MIDNIGHT. Anthemic lyrics rasp above pumping house synths and a propulsive bass line while Zai1k’s heady vocals send us along at a breakneck pace. It’s an electronic song at its hea...
