Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Talks to Elementary Schoolers About His Band’s Music

Slipknot frontperson Corey Taylor was interviewed by elementary schoolers during his guest slot on Craig Charles’ BBC radio show yesterday. The idea came to fruition after a teacher in North Dakota used the band’s music to teach fifth-graders about time signatures. Five kids from the class read questions for Taylor to answer. Alex G took the stage on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform the song “Miracles” from his new album, God Save the Animals. The track originally dropped on September 8, and followed three other singles released ahead of the full album: “Runner,” “Blessing,” and “Cross the Sea.” Watch Alex G’s Colbert performance below. In 2019, music executive Scooter Braun purchased the master rights to Taylor Swift’s early albums after he acquired her former label, Big Machine Label Group. The move, which Swift called her “worst case scenario,” has led the pop star to re-record her music. Now, Braun has shared his perspective on the acquisition in a new interview with NPR. California’s Rap Lyrics Bill Becomes State Law

California governor Gavin Newsom signed the state legislature’s Assembly Bill 2799—also known as the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act—into law today, preventing the use of rap lyrics in prosecutions. Killer Mike, Meek Mill, E-40, Ty Dolla $ign, and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr. were among those present for the virtual signing ceremony. Representatives for Songwriters of North America and the Black Music Action Coalition also joined the proceedings. The bill is aimed at reducing racial biases in the criminal justice system. “For too long, prosecutors in California have used rap lyrics as a convenient way to inject racial bias and confusion into the criminal justice process,” said SONA’s Dina LaPolt in a statement about the bill. The 2023 Met Gala will celebrate the work of Karl Lagerfeld, it was announced Friday. The German-born couturier was known for his time at Chanel, Fendi and Chloe before his death in 2019 at the age of 85. The Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, will take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, in keeping with the star-studded event’s first Monday in May tradition. The theme, as usual, is also borrowed from the spring exhibit running at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Music tech startup Songfinch has secured $17 million, closing a Series A funding round that amplifies its efforts to create a “middle class of musicians,” Built In Chicago reports.
