The War on Drugs have released two new songs as part of a new deluxe album edition of I Don’t Live Here Anymore. “Oceans of Darkness” and “Slow Ghost” are both out now, ahead of the box set’s release this Friday, via Atlantic. Back in 2020, the band debuted an early version of “Oceans of Darkness” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they performed remotely via separate livestreams during the early days of the pandemic. In a statement about the studio version of the song, frontperson Adam Granduciel said: One night in LA, while we were many months into working on what would be I Don’t Live Here Anymore, Dave [Hartley] uncovered a stripped-down demo in my Dropbox called ‘Oceans of Darkness,’ and insisted we try recording it. We were frustrated and exhausted at the time, but we s...

Aphex Twin Launches “Sample Mashing” App

Aphex Twin and the engineer Dave Griffiths have launched a “sample mashing” app called Samplebrain. The sound design software translates inputted sounds into similar samples, according to the pair. The concept, which has been in the works for some 20 years, arose after Aphex, aka Richard James, “mentioned an idea he had about something like a giant brain that you could feed samples to […] to recreate a new sound you fed it,” according to Griffiths.  Aphex summarized the app in a statement through Warp: “What if you could reconstruct source audio from a selection of other mp3’s/audio on your computer? What if you could build a 303 riff from only acapellas or bubbling mud sounds? What if you could sing a silly tune and rebuild it from classical music files? You can do this with Sa...

Santigold Cancels North American Tour

Dear Friends, I am both sad and proud to announce my decision to cancel the Holified Tour. I am sad because it breaks my heart to disappoint those of you who consistently come out to show love and support me for what I do, those of you who have bought tickets and planned trips to come and see me. When I think of disappointing you all, I feel the disappointment deep in the pit of my stomach as well. I was excited to finally be back with you in person to celebrate and bring the music of this new record to life. I know that without you I would never have been able to continue making music for all of these years, and I am so grateful. But for the past several years we have all been through immense challenges, some physical, some mental, some spiritual, some economic. And yet, as we have begun ...

More Mess: “It’s Giving Coke” Trends On Twitter, Nicki Minaj Appears To Be The Target

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Nicki Minaj wasn’t thought to be a part of the current back and forth between Cardi B and Akbar V, but many on Twitter are suggesting the opposite. On Twitter, the trending topic “IT’S GIVING COKE” is ringing off and Nicki Minaj is seemingly the target. As most Hip-Hop fans are well aware, certain artists have a collective of fans, or “hives” that put all of their energy into celebrating their respective faves. Sometimes, these groups of fans really take their roles seriously and become digital foot soldiers on the battlefield which is social media. That said, Nicki Minaj probably didn’t help matters earlier today if the subtweeting Cardi B accusations are true. Rewinding just a bit, Cardi and Akbar V got into a nasty war of word...

Oprah Winfrey And Apple TV Part Ways After 4-Year Streaming Partnership

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Jon Kopaloff / Getty Welp, it’s the end of a relatively short era as Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV are parting ways. For those who had no idea that the Black media queen and the steaming company even had a thing together, Winfrey struck a multi-year content partnership with the tech giant in January 2018. The arrangement with the streaming service didn’t produce a whole lot of content. There was The Oprah Conversations, and there was The Me You Can’t See, which was a special about mental health for Apple TV+. The Oprah’s Book Club was also a gem that could be found there. But for the most part, people likely didn’t pay much attention to it because, well, there just wasn’t much to pay attention to. Still, this might not mean a complete end to O...
