How a Long-Running Daft Punk Prank at Burning Man Found New Life With RÜFÜS DU SOL

The long-running “Daft Punk at the Trash Fence” prank at Burning Man has mutated into something entirely different. At this year’s event, thousands flocked to a location in Black Rock City—a camp called “Dusty Throwdown”—after reading an advertisement submitted to the Rockstar Librarian Music Guide. The ad promoted performances from RÜFÜS DU SOL, Kerala Dust and an unheralded musical act called Persephone, who were said to be playing on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. But they found no camp under that name—and none of the artists. It was a hoax. Kerala Dust had heard about the fake ad in advance and tried to dispel the rumors over social media, but it was too late. Kerala Dust/Facebook Perhaps the Librarian herself—who publishes the guid...

Björk wrote on Instagram, “For 20 years I have not been able to attend funerals as something about them rubbed me the wrong way.” In a new interview with Pitchfork, she elaborated, “I would help organize the musicians and the set list, but I couldn’t go inside the church [for family members’ funerals]. I would just get so mad. I’m an atheist, so it was like, ‘Wait a minute. There’s a priest here who has never met the person who passed away?’ It’s like having an MC rapping raps that he didn’t write.” Of “Ancestress,” she add...

5 Times Michael Bublé Reached ‘Higher’ as He Brought His ‘Higher’ Tour to L.A.

Michael Bublé engaged in a little market research on Friday (Sept. 23) as he brought his “Higher” tour to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. He asked how many people were seeing him in concert for the first time. When a large percentage of the audience signaled that they were, in fact, first-timers, Bublé joked about what their preconceptions of him must be — the Christmas guy who would sing a set of ballads and polite toe-tappers like “Haven’t Met You Yet.” His show shattered those preconceptions. It’s a big, wildly varied show, and Bublé is a master showman. The term “Great American Songbook” long ago came to refer to a specific strain of American music — the timeless songs that were written by the likes of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin from the 1930s to the ’50s. Bublé sang...

The website for Waters’ This Is Not a Drill concert tour did not list the Krakow concerts previously scheduled for April 21-22. City councilors in Krakow were expected to vote next week on a proposal to name Waters as a persona non grata, expressing “indignation” over the musician’s stance on the war in U...
