This weekend’s debut Portola festival in San Francisco took six years to make happen. Launching tomorrow (September 24) at the city’s Pier 80, the two-day event was conceived by Danny Bell, VP Talent Buyer for AEG Presents in San Francisco, who came up with the concept after a 2016 music-fueled traipse through Europe’s electronic hubs. Bell had just left his job as Talent Buyer for HARD Events in Los Angeles, where he’d worked before after graduating from USC. (“I graduated on a Friday and was full time [at HARD] on a Monday,” he says.) MTA Plans To Install Surveillance Cameras In All Subway Cars Over Next 3 Years

Red Hot Chili Peppers have shared another new song from their forthcoming album Return of the Dream Canteen. The latest cut is titled “Eddie,” following the earlier single “Tippa My Tongue.” The song nods to the late Eddie Van Halen, who died in October 2020, with Anthony Keidis singing, “It’s only 1983/Please don’t remember me/For what I did with David/You know I’m talking David Lee.” David Lee Roth acrimoniously departed Van Halen in 1985 after the release of the band’s sixth album 1984. The NFL has found the next presenting sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime show. Apple Music has been named the official sponsor of the annual music and pop culture event, succeeding Pepsi, which announced earlier this year that it would give up its role in presenting the show.
