We started writing the songs for A Brief Moment in the Sun in late 2020. It was daunting at first trying to make music virtually from four separate locations (NYC, Los Angeles, North Carolina, Austria) in the middle of a global pandemic, but we quickly found a songwriting groove and we added biweekly video conference calls to keep ourselves on track. By early 2021, we realized that there was something very special and passionate (and urgent) happening in these songs, and in November we met up for four days of in-person rehearsals in Brooklyn before heading down to Magpie Cage Studio in Baltimore to record the album with our old friend J. Robbins. It was pretty incredible working with J., who inspired some crucial changes to the songs, and Ian MacKaye came to the studio for two da...

Snail Mail and Mac DeMarco have shared a surprise new song. Their collaboration is called “A Cuckhold’s Refrain – Peppermint Patty.” The song features Lindsey Jordan singing the verses with DeMarco singing the chorus, and the title is not a red herring—this is a song about being cuckolded. “You and my wife, me in my shed,” Jordan sings. DeMarco adds, “If I had known just one night would cuck me out of my own home.” Hear it below. The song was recorded in DeMarco’s garage two years ago, and it features JD Beck, Domi, and Deaton Chris Anthony. Snail Mail’s last album was last year’s Valentine, while DeMarco’s last one was 2019’s Here Comes the Cowboy. Content This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. San Holo‘s latest performance was different on so many levels. The beloved guitarist and dance music producer recently lifted spirits in an elevator, DJing at a miniature rave for one of the more exclusive crowds we’ve seen. It all went down (sorry, can’t help these puns) in Los Angeles over the weekend. The performance was organized by esteemed electronic music event organizer Brownies & Lemonade. It was the latest in their “B&L Pop Up Series,” which places artists in unconventional locations for impromptu DJ sets. Other pie-in-the-sky performances include one from Whethan at an abandoned zoo and another from Moore Kismet in a train yard. Holo rinsed a bevy of his hits in the elevator, like the ageless future bass banger “Light.” B&L s...

ODESZA collaborated with a man who changed music as we know it—and didn’t even realize it at the time. Offering fans a look at what goes into making an ODESZA classic, the duo shared a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary examining “Light Of Day,” their collaboration with Ólafur Arnalds from The Last Goodbye. Much of the video explains the production and concept behind the single, but it goes much deeper than that. In 1972, a young recording artist by the name of Stephen Ambrose released a song called “Mary.” And while it received some radio play, it wasn’t what you’d call a household hit. After falling in love with Ambrose’s sound and determining it would be a perfect fit for “Light of Day,” ODESZA reached out to hi...

Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this: On Monday (Sept. 19), Kelly Clarkson received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Surrounded by original American Idol judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, the inaugural Idol champ’s ceremony took place just weeks after she marked the 20th anniversary of the revolutionary win that set her on a path to democratically elected superstardom. “This is where I won 20 years ago,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I feel very lucky and fortunate because I know a lot of talented people that love singing and are amazing at it and writing songs, and even talk show hosts — a lot of people could do that, and I just feel very fortunate that I get the chance. There are dreams you didn’t know you had and they end up happening and y...
