Todd Haynes’ Velvet Underground Documentary Getting Criterion Release

Todd Haynes’ 2021 documentary The Velvet Underground, previously only available to stream on Apple TV+, is now getting a Criterion Collection release. The new 4K digital master of the film is out December 13.  It features new commentary from Haynes and editors Affonso Gonçalves and Adam Kurnitz and outtakes from interviews with people including John Cale and Maureen Tucker. There’s also a 2021 conversation between Haynes, Tucker, and Cale, plus complete versions of excerpted avant-garde films featured in the documentary. An essay from Greil Marcus, written in 2021, is included in the edition’s booklet. Whitney Houston Biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody Gets First Trailer: Watch

Whitney Houston is the subject of the forthcoming biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which arrives in theaters on December 21. Its first trailer dropped today (September 15), and it features Stanley Tucci’s Clive Davis alongside Naomi Ackie as Houston. Watch below (via People). I Wanna Dance With Somebody follows Kevin Macdonald’s 2018 documentary Whitney, which was nominated for a Best Music Film Grammy. Bohemian Rhapsody writer Anthony McCarten wrote the new feature. Foo Fighters Prep ‘Essential’ Hits Collection

The Foo Fighters will celebrate a quarter century of rocking next month when they release a career-spanning hits collection, The Essential Foo Fighters. The compilation from Sony Music is due out on Oct. 28 and will serve as the sequel to the band’s 2009 hits album and feature a number of songs not included on the previous one. Garth Brooks’ 24/7 SiriusXM Radio Station to End After 6-Year Run

Six years after its launch, Garth Brooks’ SiriusXM channel, The Garth Channel, will go off the satellite and online radio outlet at midnight Oct. 1. The 24/7 station bowed in September 2016 while Brooks was midway through a multi-year, 390-date arena tour.
