Worldwide FM, the radio station and platform for eclectic international music, will pause most of its operations in late October after a six-year run, founder Gilles Peterson tweeted Monday (September 12). A post on Worldwide FM’s social media pages describes a “period of transition” while the station seeks new financing options. In the meantime, the platform’s website, Mixcloud, and archive will remain active, and Peterson himself will host shows. Peterson founded Worldwide FM in 2016, expanding a niche for offbeat jazz and eclectic international music—particularly from South America and Africa—that he had established as a DJ, radio presenter, and music curator. The station billed itself as a “community and platform where marginalised voices, alternative perspectives and shared prog...
Paramount+ will stream a new documentary on the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas that took place in 2017. The four-part documentary, titled 11 Minutes, features the first in-depth interview with country star Jason Aldean, who was performing when the 11-minute shooting spree began. Other interviewees include concert-goers, emergency trauma teams, first responders, police, and FBI agents. The series will arrive at Paramount+ on September 27, during the week of the event’s fifth anniversary. The massacre, for which an FBI investigation found no clear motive, left 58 people dead, making it the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Sofia Coppola has written and will direct a forthcoming biopic about Priscilla Presley, as Variety reports. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) are slated to star in the project, which is based on Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me. It’s set to shoot in Toronto later this year, eventually arriving on theater screens in the United States via A24. Born Priscilla Ann Wagner in 1945, she was 14 when she met the then-24-year-old star during his military service in Germany. The pair married at Las Vegas’ Aladdin Hotel in 1967, and had one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. Both Priscilla and Lisa Marie have remained heavily involved with the singer’s estate since his death in 1977. Coppola’s project follows this year’s Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis biopic, which featured ...

Fresh off the release of his eighth studio album, John Legend sat down with Billboard‘s Deputy Director of R&B and Hip-Hop, Carl Lamarre, to discuss the inspiration behind his new LP, fittingly titled Legend. “It represents so much of who I am as an artist, all of the artists who inspired me, all the music that I love. It’s a stage name that’s been following me for almost 20 years, and I feel like I’m ready to embrace it,” the EGOT winner explained, before revealing that he made the album throughout 2021 after his “Feeling Good” performance at President Joe Biden’s inauguration. “Part of it was fueled by that optimism and that sense that things were going to get better,” he said. Jennifer Hudson‘s new talk show premiered on Monday (Sept. 12), and the EGOT winner’s first guest was American Idol judge, Simon Cowell. During their conversation, the duo recalled the competition’s third season in 2004, in which Hudson placed seventh. “All those memories I have right from the beginning is like, ‘Why was the show so big in those days?’ It was because of people like you,” Cowell told Hudson. “It was the combination of talent, determination and real personality. Even though we had that banter, you and I, it was always that. I always knew how determined you were, and you were funny and you took it with grace. You kind of got it. I always thought that about you. You’ve got it.” When talking of the night Hudson was eliminated from Idol, Cowell remembered, “I was ...
Stars like Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa keep getting sued for posting paparazzi pictures of themselves to social media. That might seem unfair, but the law just isn’t on their side. Cyrus became the latest celebrity to face such accusations on Friday when photographer Robert Barbera filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the star, claiming she reposted his 2020 photo that showed her waving to onlookers to Instagram without a license. If that sounds familiar, it should: the same photographer filed a very similar lawsuit against Dua Lipa in June, similarly accusing her of violating his copyrights by posting one of his photos to social media. This doesn’t seem fair. Why can he sue celebrities over images of themselves? For celebrities who are hounded by paparazzi, it may seem only fair th...
