Nio Garcia Sues Management Company, Accuses Late Owner’s Mother of Sabotaging His Career
Urbano artist Nio Garcia has filed suit against his management company for “derailing” his career, according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Miami on Thursday (Sept. 8). In the 14-page complaint, filed by attorney Edwin Prado-Galarza, Garcia alleges that AH Entertainment’s current president Ilianes Ruiz is attempting to sabotage his career after illegally taking ownership of the company following the death of her son, AH founder and Garcia’s frequent collaborator Flow La Movie. He’s asking for damages of no less than $3 million and for a court order allowing him to release his own music, citing breach of contract by Ruiz. R. Kelly Prison Account Will Be Used to Pay Victim Restitution, Judge Rules
R. Kelly is currently on trial in Chicago and New York, and on Friday (September 9), a New York federal judge ruled the prosecution team can seize some of the money held in Kelly’s inmate commissary account to pay court fines and victim restitution, as Billboard and Rolling Stone report. The R&B vocalist has been ordered to hand over the nearly $30,000 dollars currently in the account, which will be used to cover a $900 court fine. The balance will also be applied to restitution after the court decides how much money Kelly owes the victims. Rolling Stone also notes under the conditions of the ruling, Kelly is allowed to retain $500 for commissary use. “The defendant has amassed nearly $30,000 dollars in his inmate trust account over the course of the last three years of incarceration,”...

The Recording Academy has announced that it will welcome nearly 2,000 diverse musicians and music industry professionals into its ranks, Billboard reports.
