IDK has dropped a little gift for his fans — a two-pack dubbed W13. The project clocks in at approximately seven minutes with two tracks, entitled “Free Slime” and “Drive” and produced by Ragz, HUTCH and E Whizz and Statik Selektah, respectively. W13 marks IDK’s first release since his latest album Simple., which was created in tandem with KAYTRANADA. In a recent interview with HYPEBEAST, he revealed that a meeting with Kanye West made him realize that rap was the life for him. “I got a call from him while I was with 88-Keys and he said ‘I wanna hear your album and if you’re real,’” he said. “My record wasn’t out yet at the time so the fact that he knew about it was kind of crazy to me. Next thing you know we were together, just talking and hanging out. That’s when I was like, ‘Alright I’m...
Snoop Dogg and Eminem are set to take the VMA stage together for the first time in two decades — bringing with them an Otherside metaverse-themed performance. The upcoming live performance is inspired by a recent collaboration between the two artists in which the artists used their Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs to create a music video, album cover, and limited merch. With an average audience interaction rate of over 38 million people across its platforms in 2021, this year’s VMAs and the duo’s performance bring a unique opportunity to increase the visibility and adoption of Web3 and NFTs. Both Snoop and Eminem are big fans and collectors of NFTs, with Snoop seeming to be the more active of the two. The artist is involved in a number of different projects and collaborations — from the food indu...
Opiuo’s fifth album, A Shape of Sound, has arrived. And we’re kind of obsessed. A cascading blend of soul, funk and glitch hop, the album reinforces Opiuo as an electronic music aesthete. A Shape of Sound marks the prolific producer’s most expansive record to date and features a number of collaborations, including tracks with Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli, Eric Benny Bloom, MOONZz and more. The album kicks off with “Flapjack,” a spellbinding midtempo tune underscored by Opiuo’s classic, gritty bass. The bass-driven “Lasso” then emerges, driven by haunting vocals by Ellika and deep, propulsive wobbles. Opiuo continues to fling listeners deeper into the inner-workings of his psyche in “Gravitate” and “Dopamine.” The same can be said for his work w...
“The human heart is a vessel,” HALIENE whispers in the opening moments of her debut album, HEAVENLY, “capable of holding deep oceans of cellular, celestial and spiritual memories.” It’s a metaphor she knows better than anyone. For years, HALIENE has been a ubiquitous member of the melodic bass mafia, guiding millions of listeners through pour-your-heart-out anthems alongside the likes of Seven Lions, ILLENIUM, Adventure Club and Kill The Noise. Her lyrics are achingly honest and tenderly penned; her voice is soaring and strong. If you listen to EDM (and you, dear reader, obviously do), we can practically guarantee you’ve smiled, laughed or cried under the musical jurisdiction of HALIENE. It should come as no surprise that her first full-lengt...

SLANDER, is that you? The barnstorming bass music duo have taken an unexpected dip into techno, keeping fans on their toes before the forthcoming release of their long-awaited debut album, Thrive. SLANDER’s new single, “Before Dawn,” speaks to the still moments of darkness before light creeps in. From the moment the track begins, listeners are taken down an eerie and unfamiliar soundscape fitted with industrial kick drums and a ferocious bassline. SLANDER have no remorse as the arrangement relentlessly chugs forward before making way for an entrancing break. Here, soothing piano chords percolate through the mix in dreamlike fashion, instilling the sense of serenity that embodies darkness before it’s transmuted into light. And just like the earth’s d...
