Paul Pacifico will exit the U.K.’s Association of Independent Music (AIM) at the end of 2022, the organization announced Monday (Aug. 15). His departure coincides with the end of his second three-year term as CEO, which officially ends on Oct. 31, though he will remain in the role through the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. During his tenure, Pacifico led AIM through such earth-shattering chapters as Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also oversaw the establishment of a free Associate Membership tier and the launch of last year’s free Future Independents online conference to foster access to learning resources and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and artists from diverse backgrounds. More recently under Pacifico’s leadership, the organization co-created a new MA ...
ZAYN appears to be getting a little nostalgic, posting a 30-second black-and-white video of himself singing One Direction‘s 2014 single “Night Changes” on Monday night (Aug. 15) to Instagram. The ballad was released as the second single from the group’s fourth studio album Four in November 2014 — just four months ahead of Zayn Malik’s surprise departure from the boy band in March 2015. It peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a top 20 hit on the Pop Airplay chart. Malik is a co-writer on the song alongside all his 1D bandmates, as well as Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan. BAND STATEMENT We have to cancel our upcoming shows this month in Wales, Scandinavia, England, and Scotland. As some of you know, Mimi has been fighting cancer. Recent developments and changes in treatment have made extensive travel impossible at this time. Our hope is that she will respond to new treatments and be able to play the shows we have scheduled for the fall, including the Water Is Life festival in Duluth on September 4. WE are very sorry for the inconvenience of ticket shuffling and travel expenses/changes. We welcome your positive hopes/prayers as we hope and pray for you all. Thank you. Peace. – Low
Michelle Branch filed for divorce from her husband, Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, on Friday in Davidson County, Tennessee following their public split last week, the Los Angeles Times reports. In a court filing, she reportedly cited “irreconcilable differences” and sought child support and primary custody of their 6-month-old daughter and 4-year-old son. The document notes that she will allow “reasonable parenting” time and is seeking legal fees. Pitchfork has reached out to Branch and Carney’s representatives. On Thursday, August 11, Branch accused Carney of cheating in a since-deleted tweet. She later shared a statement announcing that she and Carney were separating. “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family,” s...
A$AP Rocky has been charged for allegedly firing a gun at his former friend and A$AP Mob associate A$AP Relli on November 6, 2021. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced the charges today—two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Rocky was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport in April over the incident, but wasn’t charged until today. “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón said in a statement. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.” Relli recently came forward as the alleged victim of ...
R. Kelly’s federal trial began today (August 15) in Chicago. Kelly is on trial for child pornography and obstruction charges in an Illinois federal court following his indictment in July 2019. The trial was originally set to start on April 27, 2020, but was delayed due the COVID-19 pandemic, and due to Kelly’s separate trial in a Brooklyn, New York federal court. The first day of Kelly’s trial centered on jury selection; 60 potential jurors were questioned about the singer and the charges against him. Much of the questioning focused on the 2019 Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly and whether or not the jurors had seen the limited series. Kelly’s attorney requested that U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber automatically exclude anyone who watched the six-part series; the request was de...
Daft Punk may be no more, but a new experience in L.A. won’t let the legacy of the robots fade anytime soon. We recently attended a Daft Punk-inspired concert experience called “CONTACT,” an immersive show that marries a “multi-sensory dance party” with a space opera. The 360° show went down at Wisdome, the largest virtual reality dome in the City of Angels. An evolving roster of DJs and multidisciplinary performers appeared throughout the night, donning realistic versions of Daft Punk’s iconic helmets and suits. They performed atop a 3D LED cubed stage, which pulsed with kaleidoscopic colors as they rinsed hits from the duo’s discography.
