Darryl Hunt, a longtime bassist of the Pogues, died on Monday, August 8, the band announced on social media. “We are saddened beyond words,” the Pogues wrote. A cause of death was not revealed. Hunt was 72 years old. In his own statement, Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan called Hunt “a really great person and friend and a great bass player.” He continued, “May he spend eternity doing whatever he wants to do in eternal bliss, and blessings to all of the Pogues and to his family and friends.” Before joining the Pogues in 1986, Darryl Hunt played in bands including Plummet Airlines and Pride of the Cross. (Hunt, in fact, replaced a former Pride of the Cross bandmate, Cait O’Riordan, as the Pogues’ bassist.) Hunt’s first album with the Pogues, If I Should Fall from Grace With God, came out in 19...
Like a phoenix, ILLENIUM‘s long-coveted track, “From The Ashes,” has found new life—and its release is within reach. In the immediate aftermath of 2021’s Grammy-nominated album, Fallen Embers, the “All That Really Matters” producer almost immediately revealed there were more forthcoming blockbuster collaborations on the horizon, including one in particular alongside Skylar Grey. Teasing the track out on the initial stops of his subsequent tour, ILLENIUM’s “From The Ashes” quickly became among the most hotly anticipated songs in his trove of unreleased music. Based on the previews, its easy to see why since Grey’s and ILLENIUM’s respective styles of songwriting seem particularly synergistic. It’s been nearly a year sinc...
It would seem that the Seafox Nation and BTS Army are on the verge of joining forces. Galantis have been delivering the hits throughout 2022, and it seems they’re ready to take things into overdrive alongside chart-topping K-pop group BTS. The Grammy-nominated dance music duo took to Twitter to post a cryptic message along with a short clip from BTS’ 2017 single, “DNA.” Captioning the tweet, “There’s something in your DNA moves,” Galantis capped it off with the hashtag “#gotsomethingcooking.” The reference to DNA has a bit of double meaning here. Galantis released their own track called “DNA” alongside Craig David in late July. Scroll to Continue Recommended Articles By all accounts it seems that “something...
Releases from Eric Prydz are all too infrequent, but from his addictive singles to his stunning shows, the iconic dance music producer’s content consistently embodies a timeless quality. One particular house music connoisseur shopping on Discogs recently came to the same conclusion, except they put their money where their mouth is and purchased a rare vinyl copy of Prydz’s Opus for $2,000. The purchasing price was enough to land the buyer at #24 on Discogs’ monthly top 30 list of expensive purchases on the marketplace. Just 500 copies of Prydz’s debut album were released on vinyl in 2016, according to Discogs, and the original distribution was only available for those who pre-ordered. One of 500 rare vinyl copies of Opus, Eric Prydz’s debut studio al...
It was their most personal record yet, but despite their profound sense of attachment to The Last Goodbye, and the resources at their disposal, ODESZA simply couldn’t quite find the aesthetic to bring it all together. “When we were writing the new record we found ourselves searching for imagery that would match the tone and energy of the themes we were trying to convey,” they tweeted yesterday, August 8th. “And honestly, nothing seemed to fit.” Then the duo found a visual artist named Alexander, a self-described “photo enthusiast” who had just relocated from Belarus all the way to New York. While he may not have had big-time name recognition, Alexander had a particular style and vision—and ODESZA were intrigued. Incidentally it was his knack for be...
It’s a little early to be thinking about trick-or-treaters, but Miranda Lambert’s “Strange” is perhaps a good soundtrack for ultra-organized planners considering this year’s Halloween costume. “It does sound like this creepy carnival in a cool way,” she says with a laugh. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news “Strange” is a reaction to the pandemic, an out-of-balance period in American life that threw the population into uncertainty, battling a creepy virus that — particularly in its infancy — was novel and dangerous. Lest we forget how odd it was, Lambert and her co-writers, Luke Dick (“Burning Man,” “Don’t Come Lookin’”) and Natalie Hemby (“Heartache Medication,” “Pontoon”), wrote “Strange” at Lambert’s Tennessee farm in 2020, when vaccines...
