Moby is starting off 2023 with the release a new album. Earlier this month, he took to social media to announce that he was finishing up a new album called Ambient 23 with a release date of January 1, and true to his word, the producer has unveiled the new album. According to his social media post, ambient 23 was recorded using “weird old drum machines and old synths” and is “inspired by…early ambient heros” including Martyn Ware, Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Will Sergeant. In a separate update posted on the day of the release, he added: “Made to help anxiety (my own, and hopefully yours, too). Anita Pointer, one of four sibling singers who earned pop success and critical acclaim as The Pointer Sisters, died Saturday (Dec. 31) at the age of 74, her publicist announced. The Grammy winner passed away while she was with family members, publicist Roger Neal said in a statement. A cause of death was not immediately revealed. “While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace. Jeremiah Green, founding member and drummer for rock band Modest Mouse, has died following his battle with cancer. He was 45. The musician’s passing was announced by Modest Mouse in an emotional social media post on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31). “I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend Jeremiah. He laid down to rest and simply faded out,” the band wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Green. “I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. Foo Fighters have released a statement confirming that the band will continue without their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March at 50 in Bogotá, Colombia. The statement posted to the band’s Twitter account read: “We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. Jeremiah Green, the longtime Modest Mouse drummer, has died, the band announced. The band had recently disclosed that Green was undergoing treatment for cancer. Jeremiah Green was 45 years old. Green co-founded Modest Mouse with frontman Isaac Brock and bassist Eric Judy in Washington in the early 1990s. As the band was just getting started, he also performed with the local groups Satisfact and Red Stars Theory. The first Modest Mouse album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About, came out in 1996, and is now considered a fan favorite and cult classic.
