The Tubes has lost another member. Rick Anderson, bassist and founding member of the San Francisco rock band, died at 75 on Dec. 16, the group shared in a statement on social media. “We lost our brother on 12/16/22,” the band captioned a series of photos on Sunday (Dec. 18). “Rick brought a steady and kind presence to the band for 50 years. His love came through his bass. RIP.” The statement did not offer any additional details regarding Anderson’s death, which comes after the April passing of Re Styles, who sang with the group. The Tubes formed on March 22, 1972, in San Francisco, and was the combined forces of two Phoenix bands that came from the city to California in 1969. The first band, called The Beans, included Anderson as well as other members Bill Spooner, Vince Welnick and Bob Mc...
Trouble is brewing for JoJo Siwa and ex-girlfriend Avery Cyrus. The former Dance Moms star recently claimed that she had been “used” for internet fame by someone she thought she was “in love” with, harsh words presumably aimed at Cyrus, who revealed only days prior that she and Siwa had broken up after dating briefly. On Monday (Dec. 19), JoJo’s mom Jessalynn Siwa posted a video to her own Instagram Stories of her daughter talking heatedly. In the video, the “Boomerang” singer paces back and forth as Jessalynn asks, “Why are you mad?” “Because I got used!” JoJo responds. When asked by her mom what exactly she was used for for, JoJo keeps going. “For views and for clout,” she continues, still pacing, though never naming Cyrus. “I got tricked into being told I was loved and I got f–king...
Martin Duffy, the Felt keyboardist who went on to play with Primal Scream, the Charlatans, and many more UK groups, has died, BBC News reports, citing tweets by the Charlatans’ Tim Burgess and Duffy’s brother, the BBC journalist Steve Duffy. He had injured his brain in a fall and died peacefully surrounded by family, his brother said. Duffy was 55. Raised in Birmingham, Duffy joined the cult indie-pop band Felt in 1985, and his playful organs became integral to their jangly sound, particularly on the 1986 classic Forever Breathes the Lonely Word, which featured a plaintive Duffy staring out from the cover. Throughout the late ’80s, he had been moonlighting as an ancillary keyboardist with Primal Scream, and, in 1991, two years after Felt split, Duffy joined the Scottish band full-time. He ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Sarah Morris / Getty Lizzo was the musical guest on this past weekend’s (Dec. 17) episode of Saturday Night Live. Oh yeah, actor Austin Butler, aka dude who played Elvis, was the host. We’re sure he did his thing, but Lizzo was holding down the musical front and is what we we’re checking for. As was to be expected, she delivered. [embedded content] Related Stories She performed “Break Up Twice” from her 2022 album Special. There has been much discussion about how her performance and outfit was a nod to Annie Lee’s famed “Blue Monday” painting. In keeping with the holiday season, she also performed her take on Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas.” [embedded content] And just so you know how far her talent goes, Lizzo also appeared in a sketch about…plast...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Jared Siskin / Getty Well, we can’t say we didn’t see this one coming. Flamboyant Brooklyn Pastor Lamor Whitehead has been arrested by the feds for charges that include fraud and extortion. If you are unfamiliar, Pastor Lamor Whitehead is the same preacher who was robbed while he was livestreaming one of his sermons. He claimed that he was liberated of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. If that didn’t raise eyebrows, his audacious gear that includes luxury designer, and loud fashions certainly did. Soon enough a pic of Whitehead in an outlandish suit earned him the nickname “The N*ggler.” (We’re not saying we condone such a problematic nome de plume, but it’s funny.) Related Stories Anyway, Pastor Whitehead has run afoul of the law for all...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty / Elon Musk The people have spoken. They want Elon Musk to step down. Over the weekend, Elon Musk’s Twitter continued to be the trainwreck it is. The seemingly dying platform announced a dumb policy change forbidding users to plug their other accounts on other social media platforms and using options like Linktree or risk account deletion. After tremendous backlash from Twitter users, including Twitter’s former owner Jack Dorsey, the platform did an about-face on the rule. Related Stories Musk, who was at the 2022 World Cup Final between Argentina and France, chilling with other supervillains, oops, we mean dignitaries and rich folks, including disgraced former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, decided to gauge Twitter...
The musical stage adaptation of Almost Famous will play its final Broadway performance on Jan. 8, the production announced Monday (Dec. 19). The musical, an adaptation of Cameron Crowe’s 2000 film, began previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Oct. 3 and opened on Nov. 3. This is the latest Broadway show to announce its closure, following KPOP, which closed on Dec. 11, two weeks after opening, and Ain’t No Mo, which received a closing notice, but is now extended through Dec. 23 after the production and celebrities backers rallied around the show. The closing notices come as tourism remains down in New York and as Broadway shows grapple with higher running costs and changing audience behavior. Almost Famous also rece...

As 2022’s most successful K-pop debut with the triple-punch release of surprise singles “Attention,” “Hype Boy” and “Cookie,” NewJeans have followed up with the new track “Ditto” that shows off a cooler and more subtle pop approach suitable for the winter months. While their NWJNS EP was more focused on effervescent pop hooks suited for the sunshine, “Ditto” is more subtle while remaining true to the sweet style NewJeans established at the start. Over a soft, chopped-staccato beat somewhat reminiscent of the Baltimore club style, members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein mix eerie, dulcet harmonies with fun and fast melodies to match the breakbeat. The quintet spill about the rush of hoping to take the next step in a relationship and having their feelings reciprocated: “I don’t want...
Pink Floyd surprised fans by quietly releasing 18 concerts they performed during their The Dark Side of the Moon era on streaming. According to reports, the performances are from 1972 and hears the group perform the The Dark Side of the Moon album in its entirety a year before it was officially released. Many of the performances sound like repossessed bootlegs as per Variety, with vinyl scratches, changes in sound and quality and lack of completion present throughout the 18 recordings. The releases can be found on both YouTube and Spotify — with the later including the recordings under “compilations” — but may be removed in just a few weeks, similar to what happened to last year’s performances. The sudden releases from Pink Floyd and other bands such as the Be...
