Readers of Shuichi Shigeno‘s Initial D sequel MF Ghost will have to wait a little longer for the next volume of the manga. Announced on this year’s 51st issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, MF Ghost will be going on an indefinite hiatus due to Shigeno’s poor health. This sort of transparency is becoming more common amongst the bigger studios and mangaka as fans continue to speak out on the harsh working conditions the artists put themselves through — encouraging them to take their time rather than fall ill. The much anticipated Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water reportedly has a production budget within the $250 million USD range. Director James Cameron has not yet released the actual number, however he did confirm to GQ that it was “very f***ing [expensive].” According to Cameron, he also told Disney and 20th Century Studios that his sequel budget was so expensive that it represented “the worst business case in movie history.” He estimated that in order for the film to break even, Avatar 2 would “have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history.” This would mean that the sequel would have rank near the $2 billion USD range. Quentin Tarantino once again joins Martin Scorsese in criticizing Marvel films. In a recent appearance on Tom Segura‘s 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, Tarantino expressed his opinion on the decline of traditional movie stars. He doubles down on his disapproval for Marvel and the idea that the superhero films have diluted the quality of the industry. Hollywood‘s famed duo, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have announced that they are starting their own production company. The New York Times reported that the idea sprouted from both stars’ dissatisfaction with the current streaming era’s paychecks. Many of the streaming companies have refused to share the profits generated from the hits in the past decade. Over the weekend, the dynamic duo announced that they will be starting an independent production company to combat this issue after the obtained a minimum of $100 million USD in financing from investment firm, RedBird Capital Partners. Netflix has released the official trailer for Noah Baumbach’s White Noise, which stars Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig. Based on Don DeLillo’s book of the same name, the film “dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.” Joining Driver and Gerwig in the cast are Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Sam Nivola, May Nivola, Lars Eidinger, André 3000 and Jodie Turner-Smith. Netflix has shared a new teaser for Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, an upcoming anime series based on 20 of Junji Ito’s iconic horror manga works. The latest teaser focused on one of the stories within Ito’s Tomie, titled Tomie: Photo. Among Junji Ito’s many works, Tomie is certainly one of the most popular, along with the ranks of Uzumaki. Tomie was previously adapted into a live-action TV and film series, while a small part of its story was also featured in the 2018 Junji Ito Collection anime OVA series.
