Focus Features on Wednesday shared the second official trailer for its upcoming Viking revenge film The Northman. The preview, which sees Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, Nicole Kidman as Queen Gudrún, Anya Taylor-Joy as Olga, Björk as The Seeress, Willem Dafoe as Heimir the Fool and Ethan Hawke as King Aurvandil, sets the scene for an all-out battle, complete with flaming torches, blood-soaked swords and thrilling action sequences. “I cannot escape my fate,” Amleth says in the final frames of the visual, as he approaches a fiery battleground with a weapon in hand. Apple TV+ has signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Tom Hanks and Gary Geotzman’s multiple-award-winning production company Playtone. Under the agreement, the companies will partner on developing, producing and distributing all forms of television, including series, limited series, documentaries and unscripted projects. The partnership expands on Apple’s pre-existing relationship with Playtone, which was first formed in 2019 when the two companies joined forces with Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Television on Masters of the Air, a follow-up series to Band of Brothers and The Pacific. 20th Century Studios has tapped Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow to star in its reboot of White Men Can’t Jump. The remake was first announced in 2017, when Blake Griffin and Black-Ish creator Kenya Barris signed on to develop the project. The film will be a reimagined take on Ron Shelton’s 1992 sports comedy which originally starred Woody Harrelson, Wesley Snipes and Rosie Perez. The premise of the film follows both Black and white basketball hustlers who come together to double their chances at winning in street basketball tournaments. Harlow is set to step into the Harrelson’s original role, while Wall will be taking over Snipes’. The two sequel films will join the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist franchise, which debuted its first  iteration in 2017. Disney+‘s new Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to arrive late next month, and now the show’s writer Joby Harold has explained the timeline that Ewan McGregor finds himself thrust into. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Harold revealed that the series will take a deep dive into the galaxy post-Order 66, where darkness reigns. “It takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, in a time of darkness in the galaxy,” the creative explained. “The Empire is in the ascendancy. The team behind the HBO’s hit Baltimore crime drama The Wire is making a comeback with We Own This City. The forthcoming miniseries, which will also air on HBO, will chronicle the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption within it. Marvel Studios‘s upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart has now recruited Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes as directors. Bailey is best known for her previous co-creation of the Emmy-nominated Brown Girls as well as creating Gotham-nominated You’re So Talented. She has also produced and directed the final season of Dear White People on Netflix and Powderkeg’s East of La Brea. As for Barnes, her work includes episodes of both Mythic Quest and Blindspotting, and she’s also directing the upcoming fourth and last season of Donald Glover‘s Atlanta. Giancarlo Esposito, who portrayed Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, revealed that he is quite open to the possibility of reprising his role for another spinoff that is focused on his character.
