Mexico coach: Victory vs Nigeria good test ahead Concacaf Gold Cup

Gerardo Martino, Technical Director of the Mexican national team, has described the win against the home-based Eagles as a good test for his side ahead of this year’s Concacaf Gold Cup. A brace from Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera and a goal each from Jonathan Dos Santos, former Barcelona forward and Rogelio Funes Mori, earned Mexico a comfortable 4-0 win in Los Angeles, USA, in the early hours of Sunday. Speaking at a virtual press conference, the former Barcelona coach said: “It always gives peace of mind, especially since we are on the eve of a very important tournament for us. “Recovering feelings of the game and scoring goals, gives a greater margin of tranquility, this is a friendly match, it has been a good test and a good way to introduce ourselves into what is to come.” ...

The 50 Best Songs of 2001

It was a banner year for producers. The Neptunes — a major commercial force since Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Got Your Money” — helmed more great songs than we could fit on this list. (Shout out to NSYNC’s “Girlfriend,” an all-time classic boy band single.) Timbaland, Kanye West and Dr. Dre were similarly on fire. It was also a crucial year for several elite artists: You’ll notice we couldn’t help but include multiple songs from Radiohead, Daft Punk, Destiny’s Child and The Strokes. But there’s something for everyone here — from Southern hip-hop (Mystikal) to indie-rock (Spoon) to prog-metal (Tool). So raise up, roll out and let us blow your mind. Here are the 50 Best Songs of 2001. 50. No Doubt – “Hella Good” [embedded content] Though “Hella Good” wasn’t the forever end of No Doubt (the band reu...

We paid N10 million to secure hospital bed space for Bolu Akin-Olugbade – brother

Sunmade Akin-Olugbade, the economist brother of late socialite and businessman, Bolu Akin-Olugbade, has alleged that the family had to cough up N10m before his brother could be allocated a bed space at a hospital in Lagos to be treated for Covid-19. Unfortunately, the Rolls Royce connoisseur gave up the ghost. Speaking to Asabe Afrika TV, Sunmade said his billionaire brother who had been away for most of 2020, arrived Nigeria from London in October hale and hearty and began attending parties against his advice. Bolu he said, would always dismiss his worries by telling him he had his face mask on. He said Bolu was doing fine until New Year’s Eve when he complained that he was feeling unwell. He was initially sent some bitter kola and ginger among other local herbs but it was his breathing d...

National carriers announce resumption of Qatar-Saudi air travel

The national carriers of Qatar and Saudi Arabia have announced the resumption of air travel between the two countries starting next week, just days after a deal was reached to end a years-long regional diplomatic dispute. A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit on Tuesday declared an end to the bitter rift in which members Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain – along with Egypt – blockaded Qatar since June 2017. The group severed diplomatic, trade and travel ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism, an accusation Doha vehemently denied. Kuwait and the United States had been mediating for reconciliation. On the eve of the 41st GCC summit held in Saudi Arabia, the kingdom agreed to reopen its air, sea and land borders with Qatar – a major breakthrough in the Gulf crisi...

Marcus Rashford tames Wolves to send Manchester United into second

Marcus Rashford’s deflected strike deep into stoppage time moved Manchester United to within two points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Wolves on Tuesday. United laboured for long spells against a youthful Wolves side, but got a huge slice of fortune in the 93rd minute when Rashford’s shot hit Romain Saiss to leave Rui Patricio helpless. Victory takes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men up to second and continues an excellent run of 23 points from the last possible 27 to mount an unlikely title challenge after a slow start to the season. Despite enjoying one more day’s rest amid the packed festive schedule than their opponents, Solskjaer made six changes from the side that drew 2-2 at Leicester on Boxing Day. Edinson Cavani made just his second Premier League start...

Christmas celebrated under pandemic’s shadow

Hundreds of millions across the world celebrated pared-down Christmas festivities on Friday due to coronavirus restrictions, as Pope Francis called for vaccines for everyone, describing them as “glimmers of hope in this period of darkness and uncertainty”. The pandemic has claimed more than 1.7 million lives and is still running rampant in much of the world, but the recent launching of mass vaccine campaigns has boosted hopes that 2021 could bring a respite. Like so many across the globe, the pope was forced to break with normal Christmas tradition, holding his annual “Urbi et Orbi” speech by video from the apostolic palace, to prevent a crowd from gathering in St Peter’s Square. “I call on everyone, on leaders of states, on businesses, on international organisations, to promote cooperatio...

Eve Admits Her Wild Party Habits Caused Her Sitcom To Be Canceled

Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN At the highest point of Eve’s career, she ambitiously juggled a self-titled sitcom on UPN that became a popular weekly fix in Black households but was ultimately pulled off-air due to low ratings.  Looking back at it now, the “Pitbull in a skirt” regretfully admits she is the main one to blame for the show’s failure.  The rap star explained during an episode of “Uncensored” how she struggled to shake the lure of nightlife while simultaneously keeping up with the rigors of filming a television series. “Having my own sitcom was everything. It was pressure, it was fun, it was stressful. It was amazing. I was the youngest at the time, of the cast. And a lot of them were just getting married, just having babies or just buying their first house. I was still g...
