Tulum’s 17-Day Zamna Festival Postponed Following Spike in COVID-19 Cases
Tulum’s marathon 17-day festival event Zamna, which was scheduled to kick off on December 31st, has been postponed following public concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Zamna Festival was feared to be a superspreader event in the making. Tulum has recently become a hub for music festivals playing it fast and loose amid ongoing pandemic restrictions, and has drawn visitors from the United States and throughout Latin America. A glimpse of hope for music festival fans surfaced over the weekend when the famed Canadian dance music fest, Shambhala Music Festival, announced plans to return to the Salmo River Ranch in 2021. Originally, the festival was set to run in late July 2020, but to err on the side of caution, Shambhala will now take place from August 20th to 23rd, 2021. Although it is a ways away, the new announcement gives festival-goers something to look forward to. Seemingly spurred by the recent vaccination news or from the many fan requests, Electric Forest has provided an update on their plans for their 2021 return to Sherwood Forest. While organizers did not share anything concrete as there are too many variables at play this early in the vaccination stage of the pandemic, it’s good to see that they are working hard to send fans back to the forest once it’s safe to do so. It’s no secret that the pandemic has hit musicians especially hard, and Colorado company Tyler, The Creative—not affiliated with rapper Tyler, The Creator—is hoping to lend a hand via their upcoming “Stay Home Silent Disco 2” livestream on January 8th, modeled after the event’s March edition.
