We’ve finally reached the time of the year when we can say—with a sigh of relief—these four words: “2020 is almost over.” New Year’s 2020 will look and feel much different thanks to COVID-19 lockdowns that seem to become more strict by the minute. Staying at home on New Year’s Eve isn’t the worst thing, though. You can spend quality time with family, party in your sweatpants, save hundreds of dollars on a one-time outfit, and avoid the inevitable vomit-inducing jäger bombs. Here is a list of virtual dance music events to stream on New Year’s Eve and Day—because being stuck at home doesn’t mean you can’t rave. Tulum’s marathon 17-day festival event Zamna, which was scheduled to kick off on December 31st, has been postponed following public concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Zamna Festival was feared to be a superspreader event in the making. Tulum has recently become a hub for music festivals playing it fast and loose amid ongoing pandemic restrictions, and has drawn visitors from the United States and throughout Latin America. Art With Me, a recent festival in Tulum, saw attendees dancing in crowds, and virtually no mask-wearing. The event was tied to a spike in cases, leading many to fear that Zamna would precipitate the same. Following backlash, Zamna’s organizers have postponed their next event until April, 2021. In a statement shared via the fest’s website and Fac...
You wouldn’t usually expect to see techno and bingo in the same sentence—much less the same room—but these days the music scene is anything but conventional. As part of the extended Melbourne Music Week, the “Techno Bingo” event promises to deliver exactly that unlikely combination, marrying rave music with one of the world’s most timeless and wholesome games. Hosts Katie Pearson, DJ Tanzer, Gabriella Bartonova, The Huxleys, and Jandruze will be working double-duty, dropping beats as well as drawing numbers. Beat Magazine The seated event features intermittent dancing, club lights, pizza for purchase, and the stylings of dirty disco and techno to soundtrack this one-of-a-kind game night. Attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes should ...

A glimpse of hope for music festival fans surfaced over the weekend when the famed Canadian dance music fest, Shambhala Music Festival, announced plans to return to the Salmo River Ranch in 2021. Originally, the festival was set to run in late July 2020, but to err on the side of caution, Shambhala will now take place from August 20th to 23rd, 2021. Although it is a ways away, the new announcement gives festival-goers something to look forward to. In the meantime, it is important to remain positive and stay informed about the country’s health and safety protocols. Tickets purchased for the 2020 iteration of Shambhala are redeemable for the next three years. In order to confirm redemption, ticket-holders have been asked to determine their desired year of attendance and the ...
Let’s be honest—there’s a chance that 2020’s hideousness will spill over into 2021. It’s a thought that we’re all trying to avoid in the name of optimism, but it very well may happen thanks to nationwide lockdowns that become more stringent by the hour. Before 2021 goes off the rails, though, Destructo is kicking off the year on a rosy note. The FriendShip founder, who has emerged as one of the most prolific streaming DJs in the COVID-19 age, has announced a special Sunrise Sermon set on New Year’s Day. 2020 saw Destructo take his patented performances to the virtual concert space, where he livestreamed marathon sets for fans who had nowhere to dance but their kitchens and bedrooms. As digital concerts continue to boom in the absence of ph...

We’re running out of superlatives for Madeon. With each new song or performance, he seems to somehow one-up himself. After his fans were blown away by his recent set at Brownies & Lemonade and IHEARTCOMIX‘s recent “LA Gives Back” charity livestream, Madeon decided to upload his full performance. Fresh off his first-ever Grammy Award nomination for his sophomore album Good Faith, the French electronic music prodigy offered an intimate acoustic fireside session. The set consisted of stripped back versions of “All My Friends,” “The Prince,” “Hold Me Just Because,” and his fan-favorite collaboration with Porter Robinson, “Shelter.” Check out the full performance below, courtesy of Madeon’s YouTube ...
With a second vaccine now approved for use in the USA’s fight against COVID-19, dance music fans have begun to ask when their favorite festivals will be coming back. Seemingly spurred by the recent vaccination news or from the many fan requests, Electric Forest has provided an update on their plans for their 2021 return to Sherwood Forest. While organizers did not share anything concrete as there are too many variables at play this early in the vaccination stage of the pandemic, it’s good to see that they are working hard to send fans back to the forest once it’s safe to do so. In the statement, they also thanked fans for their patience and briefly mention ticketing details. More information about tickets will come with the official announcement of the fest’s dates....
It’s no secret that the pandemic has hit musicians especially hard, and Colorado company Tyler, The Creative—not affiliated with rapper Tyler, The Creator—is hoping to lend a hand via their upcoming “Stay Home Silent Disco 2” livestream on January 8th, modeled after the event’s March edition. With a private donor on board to contribute $1 per viewer up to $10,000, the free experience’s proceeds will be split between three local arts nonprofits. And because the event is free—again, it’s free—all you’ll need is an Internet connection to attend and lend your support. Arranged in a typical silent disco fashion, the stream will consist of three simultaneous electronic performances broadcast from the company’s website, with each Colorado-based...
